For your size.. you could probably get by with 4x4.. otherwise sounds like you have a great plan.

Only way to get cover cheaper is to use those tube-fram tarp covers.

When i got my NH 7610s.. it was way way to big for my horse barn.. And as you said.. I didn't have the extra ca$h to build a pole barn.. etc.. so for about 150$ I got a 12x30 tube frame and tarp...and slapped it together in a couple hours. I can pull it down when/if we move.. or if i builf something more permanent.

Highbeam, how much was that thing and how was it delivered? I'm assuming it is one of those used cargo containers.

-As I recall, it was about 2200$ delivered about 30 miles from the storage yard where I bought it. 8x8x20' long. It arrived on a rollback truck and he was able to set it right where I wanted it. He could also come get it with that truck should I want to resell it. Seems the company has a good rental business for these things too. It was orange/brown and pretty ugly so I bought 2 gallons of oil based enamel at the hardware store and sprayed it inside and out with an el-cheapo auto type paint gun. The inside is stoutly wood floored and after cutting vents to let the moisture out things stay stored real well. My ventilation solution used house type ventilation fixtures with screens to keep the bugs out.

Joe, What you have makes sense and accomplishes the criteria of relative security and portability. Your photos show a sea going container in darn good shape from what I see. Where or how does one buy something in this good of shape?

I live pretty near the port of Tacoma and there are storage container yards. Apparently they aren't usable after a certain age or a certain amount of damage, corrosion, something. Still prefectly good for a shed. The 40 foot long version is also very common and was almost the same price. These containers are what gets stacked on cargo ships, freight trains, and semi trucks across the country. Some are insulated and/or refridgerated but steel is fine for a tractor.

N80,
Just to give you other options... I recently put up a "portable garage" from Harbor Freight for around $150 to $200. It is smaller than what you want at 9' by 17' but I did a write up on it here.

Other companies sell bigger ones like www.shelterking.com

You may find one of these to be a nice temp solution until you can invest in that dream pole barn! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good luck!
