Check Chains Alternative

So, I mangled the check chains/rods assemblies on my B7500. Looked up the parts at Messick's and it will run me about $160 for them. Bit much for some 1/2" all thread and some nuts welded to pieces of strap.

So, i am looking for alternatives.

Right now, I am thinking about some 1/4" chain with turnbuckles or some other method of tightening them. Figure I can put that together for about $20-30.

Any other ideas?

I don't know about the B7500, but on my B7800 I installed the "telescopic stabilizers" from the B2910 when by turnbuckles gave up the ghost. That was the best $150 I have ever spent on the tractor. Soooo much better than turnbuckles. I don't know if the same conversion is available for the B7500, but Messick's should know if you give them a call.

You can get Generic check-chains like you described, but you need to get graded turn-buckles and speaking from experience, it's best to just get them from a tractor supply place. Messicks probably has them. I know Hoye tractor (another sponsor here) does.

However, for the price, I'd be tempted to go with the telescopic stabilizers that Dr. Bob is talking about. I almost wish my "threaded rod" would break so I have an excuse to upgrade

Thanks for the tip on the telescoping ones. I found them on the diagrams, total is going to be $195.06. Looks like it should be a bolt on conversion. I think the $30 will be money well spent as it appears to be a more robust setup. I may be able to save a few bucks on some of it by not using Kubota parts, but I doubt it is worth it.

For now, I picked up some chain and associated bits and will cobble something up to work in the mean time. Picked up a couple of light duty turn buckles that I am sure I will destroy quickly. But it will keep it out of the tires for the time being.

I believe Tractorsmart also has a telescoping arm kit available for reasonable money.Good Luck!

I bought a tap and a die in 1/2" - 13 L from ENCO and make my own turnbuckles.

The preferred way - don't buy solution, buy tools:thumbsup:

Tractorsmart does have a "kit" Stabilizer for a little bit less.

I would love to build my own and I imagine I could even do telescoping ones without too much trouble, but I don't have the time/tools to do it.
