CHECK YOUR LUG NUTS!!!

I drove to the Kubota dealer about 4 miles away, and after about $50 in parts and $150 in labor (15 minutes of labor) I was able to go finish my day.

Labor charges like that are why I do most of my own work, no matter how sorry it is.

I checked my nuts and they are still there! LOL

My wife had her summers installed and they requested she come back for re torqueing after 500 KMS.
My garage simply wire brushes all forms of corrosion B4 torqueing the rims.

I asked why they did not use the (color coded) torque bars and the reply was they simply did not trust them.
Now this shop wire brushes all surfaces B4 installing any rims as they claim the corrosion (rust) is what is the cause of loose lug nuts, I agree.

I once had a rim almost come of due to inadequate torqueing so I fully comprehend.

This will sound really stupid but maybe it will save someone some aggravation or even injury. I 've always checked my lug nuts when I change the oil but about six months ago I discovered that the large axle bolt that holds the hub to the axle was loose (Yanmar 240D). Discovered it by way of the rear wheel falling off! Lug bolts were nice and tight though... Fortunately, I had a box scraper hooked up at the time so it just stopped moving and the rear end was held up by the scraper. I jacked it up and put the wheel and bolt back on with out problem but I'll be checking it with the lug bolts now!

That is correct. I just assumed it was a minimum charge. I didn't even look at the invoice. But, it was worth every penny to me. It saved me several hours of time and I was able to finish my day. And, this was not the dealer I bought the tractor from. This was a dealer about 80 miles from my shop. They just happened to be close to where I was working on that day.

I got the new rim today and took it to my local tire shop. They were not able to put one of the new studs in place because the threads in the hub are messed up and need to be cleaned. But, now I have a new rim and 5 lugs holding it on. I even went back over the 5 lugs with a breaker bar after I got it home, just to be sure.

Yeah I get it, sometimes it is better to just pay and get on with what you are doing.

A couple of years ago I took my trailer to a horse farm to get a load of stall cleanings. As the manager started up the new John Deere and moved forward you could hear the front wheel creaking. It went about 2 feet before the wheel fell off. The look on his face was priceless. After looking at it you could tell it had been ran a lot with loose and missing lug bolts. Why no one heard it or noticed it, is up for debate.

After going to 2 hardware stores, 1 auto parts store, checking with 3 mechanics and one machine shop, I finally found a 14mm x 1.5 pitch thread tap to clean the thread so that I could install the last stud. My wife had one at the place she works. (She reminded me I should have checked with her first)

Now, I have all 6 studs and lug nuts back in place. I will be checking them often. I should replace at least one more of the studs, because when I went to take the lug nut off, the whole stud came out, which means the threads on it are bad and the lug nut is stuck on the stud.
