Checking/Setting Hydraulic Pressure

And what if you do find pressure that is over the 3K gauge?

Guages come with quite a few different face sizes so the larger ones may be readable.

Then you must also take into account the accuray of the guage all the small differences may not mean much other than indication.:D

If the 1510 is operating with a relief pressure above 3000psi, he has a lot of hydraulic oil on the ground somewhere, or in the crankcase.

Not going to get in the gauge debate, but I will present a warning.
High pressure fluids can be dangerous, so don't be negligent or distracted when you're working with it. If you do have an accident (fluid injected in your skin), it's time for an immediate trip to the hospital...do not delay!
Suspected pin hole leaks should be investigated by dragging a rag across the hose or fitting...pressures in excess of a few hundred PSI can inject fluid into your hand, higher pressures can amputate.

Oh now don't be going and injecting any common sense into all of this... can't have that. :)

Ditto that.. I like to use a piece of cardboard when looking for suspected leaks on hyds or diesel injection systems.

Where can I find pressure guages and where do I attach them?

This is the simplest way....just connect to one of the work ports on your
loader. This photo illustrates why I always test pressures on new
equipment. This is a $10 fluid-filled 4000psi guage from AgriSupply.

Harder to find is the system relief valve for adjustment. You need the
service manual for that. You also need the manual if you have no
loader or AUX valves.

You guys are making me cry with this thread :(

I work for a large plumbing & heating distributor. About 2 years ago we cleaned out (translation=threw away) a lot of slow moving material including a ton of 4" & 6" 2000 & 3000 lb Ashcroft gauges, most glycerin filled (we fill & seal them at time of sale).

Who knew?

It may be to late. Someone explained on the proper use of gauges and their ranges.:D

If you go to the McMaster Carr site and look up guages they have similar verbage and show higher accuracy for mid scale readings. Looks like a good guage can be had for about $130.
