Finally, my son squatted down to get a better look. Soon, he had visitors.

bmac,
It looks awesome, the chickens look happy. I am sure you are happy to have them in and be in the home stretch. I need to get mine at least close to done this weekend. Congrats.

I can't believe how big the chicks have gotten in just two weeks. I will try to post some pictures soon.

I have grandiose plans for getting my coop enclosed this weekend. Time will tell.

At that age, you can almost just sit and watch them grow right in front of you. It really is amazing.

Thank you (and Don) for the kind words. Good luck with your coop - hope you find time to make progress on it.

My next priority is to finish the soffits on the back of the coop so I can then get to the pen.

Well, I didn't get as much as I wanted done, but I made some decent progress. I got the door surround framed and the door itself framed together with the window installed. I have the pieces of exterior wood cut for the third side of the coop. So I have to cut and install the exterior wood for the door, put a floor and what I will call a "sub-cieling"(I have a roof panel over most of the run, but I want to put another roof for the coop so I can insulate it in the spring) I have to make a ladder for the chickens to get up to the coop, build the roost, hang the kitty litter nest box, and caulk everything. It sounds like a ton of work, but I feel like I have gotten the last major part done and the rest will, hopefully, get done this week, before I go on vacation. I will try to post a couple of pictures as soon as I can, but I need to get to bed.

Well as promised here are a few pictures.
This is of the door frame, not perfect but I think it will hold the window no problem and it fits the space.

Here is where I added a top plate, probably not the correct term, to create a rectangular opening.

Here is the door frame with the window installed and the hinges attached. I had to chisel a little to get the hing to be flush so it worked the way I wanted it to. They are self closing hinges so I won't have to worry about leaving it opened, but it also means I will have to put a latch somewhere to keep it open when I am cleaning it out.

This last one is of where I chiseled out for the hinge where it will be attached to the run.

Man, I really know what you're talking about!!

Door looks good. What are you going to use for the sheathing material on the door?

I've lost a lot of motivation since we've moved the birds to the coop, letting other things take a higher priority. On Saturday, I helped a friend lay sod (something I hate doing) rather than do coop work. I did a little interior work yesterday, but today - the first real day of my vacation - I spent on the computer looking for a car for my teenage son (something else I detest - car shopping, not my son:D ). We may do a family night at the movies tonight, otherwise, I guess I'll go do some work on the pen.

Keep going, Tororider. You'll probably finish before I do.

Guys maybe you could help me out here a bit. I'm also in the process of building a little coop (10 X 12) and want a Gambrel roof. Using the measurments that are supplied on these pictures should 2 X 4s or 2 X 6s be used for construction of the rafters and how would you recommend spacing of such for our Ohio snow loads?

BTW: This is a really great thread for all things related to chickens. I came in late and have been reading the thread for more than a couple of days.

Thanks to Tororider for bringing it to my attention.
