You may want to check your assertion.

Flu ~ 1 in 1000

Coronavirus ~ 1 in 29

Thats a factor of 34 X. Hardly slightly

Unfortunately the real data is hard to come by and the numbers quoted don’t reflect the reality worldwide.

Two things make this bug unique. The area where it started (Wuhan) has the disproportionate ratio of deaths per case. But that info may turn out to be wrong too. Because (point two) the bug is so hard to self detect (most don’t know they have it or only feel slightly ill) their are likely many cases that didn’t get reported a the virus.

Bottom line- the entire world has supposedly only seen something like 2600~ deaths. And when you take Wuhan out of the stats (likely something else there precipitating the symptoms or the early reporting was skewed) this is has stats that are more inline with what most call the flu or yearly flu in the USA.

Poor diet, poor sewer systems, lack of exercise and car wrecks, worldwide are killing hundreds of times more people than this. That thing many stare at for hours a day exists to sell you. They figured out the more scary and salacious they make it the more people stare. The “stats and reports” from websites or TV that have advertising aren’t a good source for data and won’t help one paint a realistic outlook of this.

1st case in America ? state of California

"At this time, the patient exposure is unknown,'' the CDC said in a statement. "It is possible this could be an instance of community spread of COVID-19, which would be the first time this has happened in the United States.
Community spread means spread of an illness for which the source of infection is unknown. It is also possible, however, that the patient may have been exposed to a returned traveler who was infected.''

some more info on this patient and US testing

Looks like California could be right-"I think extremely likely by contact from a returned traveler"

Travis air force base in the close vicinity

Other info that stood out from Med Cram Video:
Chest CT outperformed the PCR test and using both is more accurate

We went to costco this morning for our usual 2 week grocery run, 1/3 of the shoppers were buying bleach, Clorox hand wipes, water, peroxide, and goodies.
The clorox was stacked on pallets 3 high for customers to buy.
Yes, I bought some too...

I'm on several Tourist Travel sites. I've noticed something very strange. Many people are changing their travel plans to avoid certain areas like Northern Italy and the middle east. Somehow people think if they don't go to location A and instead go to location B then they are entirely safe. This sort of logic is baffling to me. They are still going to be at several airports, and still be stuck in a flying aluminium tube, with 200 some odd other passengers from all over the world. Its as if they are entirely missing the point. Its the airport and the airliners that are the HOT ZONES: not the destination. What happens if all the TSA employees stay home? In two weeks we should know if this is merely a scare or something very real. The Flu pandemic of 1918/19 happened in three phases. The first phase was somewhat mild, the second phase is the one that killed 40+ million people, and the last phase was somewhat mild. Its estimated that 1/3 of the world's population at that time got infected: And this was before the age of the jet and casual tourism.

We're planning an offroad buggy gathering here at the farm on Sunday. I'll have to go to bed real early Saturday night so I can keep up with the young gang I hang out with. :)

IMO anyone that has traveled back into the US from any of the infected countries and has not reported it should be criminally charged and given mandatory jail time...!(if they survive the virus)...something like one month for every person they MAY have exposed to the virus.
