Is it really true that Chinese tractors sell for as much as 10K New today? When I sold them about 10 years ago, my cost was around $3K for a new top line 284 Jinma. (28 HP). Ken Sweet

I remember when those homier tool shows were around, they had the plane jane 2wd 18hp models on sale for 2000$.. must have been 10-12 ys ago.. I probably should have got one then.. at that price I couldn't go wrong doing my own service on it..

Service I cannot comment on since I have done my own, but on parts so far, the chinese has the others beat hands down in price, speed and availablility:thumbsup:
Compared to my admittedly limited experience with a number of heavy equipment and tractor manufacturers, getting parts for my Jinma has been a relatively painless and inexpensive exercise. I attribute much of that to the change in the way parts can be obtained through the internet rather than in person but for Massey parts for example I have waited up to a month,and paid the shipping to the dealership

The pro-chinese owners like to state that their chinese tractors are "as good" or a few go even further and state they're "even better" than their neighbors' non-Chinese brands.

On the contrary there is an old expression that says "never compare yourself to someone else, you will only be disappointed" -- I think it is more that the owners of Chinese tractors are tired of being told they bought a POS by people who have more opinion than fact -- JMHO

I'd put your chinese parts availability and price up against ford any day of the week. keep in mind I can hit a feed store and get a shopping cart full of parts for a machine 71 years old.

not to mention the hundreds of salvage parts leads available thru clubs or word of mouth.. literally tons of resources. ( many brands are like this.. not just ford.. )

In 71 years you gonna be able to hit a farm store and pick up a 'anything' for that jinma?

Again you make an assumption -- feed stores around here do not have parts for 71 year old tractors unless they have been there for 71 years

Our local feed store has parts for the 70 year old tractors and also the related implements. Ken Sweet

depends on the store. not counting the dealer, within an hour of my house I know of 5 chain feed/farm stores that carry old ford tractor parts.

2 dealerships within 45m drive, 3 if you expand to an hour drive.

3 ford/linc/merc car dealerships within 30minutes drive that will have SOME ford tractor parts, as long as you have the part number with you.

4 napa and 3 car quest stores within 30 minute drive that care a good line of ag parts.

3 tractor mechanics within 45 mins drive that have parts on shelves, especially for the oldies.

at least 3 hardware stores that I know of that carry old tractor parts ( really old hardware stores too.. )

However.. I don't know of a single place I can drive to in those areas to get any chinese tractor parts.. save perhaps oil and air filter from napa if i had a crossover number

I joined TBN last year to learn more about tractors before I purchase one. I thought I'd own one by now but hope to make the plunge soon. I read allot of the Green VS Orange, Blue VS Red, etc topics on here. I've read this and other similar topics with interest.

I'm a firm believer in buying quality products, especially tools....which I consider a tractor to be. I want my tools to work for me, not me having to work on my tools. I have no problem doing maintenance as long as its on my schedule. Durability, reliability, parts and service availability are every bit as important to me as price. I looked at several brands of dump trailers before I bought. I ended up with a Behnke (B&B) which cost nearly double what some of the lesser trailers I looked at cost. In the end I decided it was more important to me to get a trailer that would hold up to 25-30 years of hard use. I'm looking at the tractor purchase the same way. I've had some experience with a couple of brands, and I've been around a fair amount of equipment at work over the years so I entered the tractor market with an idea of what I needed, but had an open mind as far as what brand to get. One thing that surprised me was the number of TBN members that advised me to shop the dealers (parts and service) as much as the brand. That is good advice. Buying Chinese seems to fly in the face of that advice.

A JD with 20K + hours is probably allot more common in farm country than many might think. A family member of a friend has one of them. They had to rebuild the engine at 35+ years. They bought all the parts at the local AUTO parts store!
I also have a friend with a Ford Jubilee (1953). In the rare event he needs parts he can drive 2 miles to the NH dealer who stocks parts all the way back to the 9N!!!!!!

If you Chinese tractor owners are happy with what you bought all I can say is I'm happy for you. I haven't read a compelling reason for ME to buy one.

I keep reading about Joebob writting that his _____ 2010 name brand tractor will last years longer then _____chinese 2010 tractor. PROVE IT! just because there are some beautifull old machines out there now,{50+ yrs old} does not mean the newer machines will last as long. The name brand tractors have cut corners right along with everything else. The price and quantity goes up, the quility goes down. Also remember there was a time when an 8N was laughed at by farmers with horses

Kubota parts I can get right away -- I just have to show up with a large #of dollars:shocked:

Gotta agree with Soundguy there. Ain't no way you're getting parts faster than I can get Deere, Kubota or New Holland. Heck, even my AGCO parts guy had them to me by days' end or next morning.

Again, it's because you get what you pay for. There's no "free lunch". I'll bet the Kubota parts are manufactured & machined to better tolerances, built with higher quality metalurgy and have better finishesfor longer durability than the cheaper chinese parts.

You guys with chinese machines really believe they are 40% cheaper, better, will last longer and hold resale value better than name brands???

Give me a break! -- the "heritage" parts I was buying for my Massey were made -- guess where -- and the most notable thing about them was the price and the amount of time it took to get them -- the quality in several cases was poor. You are right -- there is no free lunch but paying extra is not the criteria for quality either. Sometimes the perception of quality lingers long after it is gone - if we always got what we paid for you and I would own a lot of banks, car companies and capital assets that stupid people really could not afford

I guess that was aimed at me for my comment about my friend's Jubilee. Until recently he had a 2N and the Jubilee as well as a Farmall. He had them since the 1980's. They were all well used but good solid tractors when he got them. Other than normal maintenance items the only things he needed to do was rebuild the carb on the 2N and replace a wheel bearing on the Jubilee. No one was more surprised than he was when he went to the NH dealer to ask if they could recommend a place for him to find a wheel bearing and they said they stocked parts back to the 9N (1939!!!!!). I can't say why they stock such old parts. Could be they are old stock they never had reason to sell. Could be those parts interchange with parts on newer tractors. Or could be since half of the N series Fords are reportedly still in use there is demand for them. I'm impressed that half of the Fords built between '39 and '52 are still in service.

No it obviously was not aimed -- I know and agree that in a number of places in the U.S you can go to the corner store and buy parts for that old Ford -- but have you had to put spark plugs in one of their truck engines lately? The days of simple repairs are gone and parts that used to be interchangeable for 10 years are non existant. If you want to believe that buying a new whatever will mean that you have parts availability, reliability and longevity like those oldies just because the name is the same and the price tag is high go ahead - forgive me if I am a little sceptical about that strategy

Amazing isn't it -- the price some people want for a used tractor boggles the mind. And of course they all run well and have been regularly serviced at the dealer and are being sold with great regret because the wife has insisted that there is not enough room for that and the new one:laughing:
