My L-12 is nut on outside also. IF you used a spline shaft motor you would also have to buy a splined shaft sprocket to go with it!

I think only the common Miva/Vicsec models use that spline shaft type. I went out to an auction and looked but couldn't tell for sure if they were splined without loosening up the bolt for clarification. I'm sure someone here owns one and can clarify. I ended up buying the AGT DM12-C model. It's a 350 size with tapered/thread/nut shaft like most come with. Impro Fluidtek is the brand name, still made in china though.

I looked at the other agt models and wouldnt take a truckload of them home if they gave them to me!! Cant check the oil and putting gas in them is a crock!! The l-12 has the tilt ass end so you can get to most of the motor under there.
The h-12 and others only have seat tilt and I couldnt reach down there to check the oil in them OR ever work on the motor so on the way out I spotted this l-12 and its the only one they had.
