Chit Chat forum

/ Chit Chat forum #21
I have looked up and read the post of some of the chit/chat posters, and that is what most of their post is, just chit chat, and they just babble on and on, thinking that is normal. I wonder if their friends have told they have a problem. Even smiley faces don't help their situation.

Someone should have the authority to just trash those kinds of post.

I would hope the administrators would jump in and clean up some of the garbage and guide them to the correct path, maybe over to Facebook and Twitter.

Perhaps charge a fee for every post not on track with the forum.

Charge a fee for bad posts? Seriously? What country do you live in?

Post #6 is a good example of the totally useless post.

Trying to keep a thread on topic is like trying to herd cats...isn't just TBN. Most forums are like this.

Fair enough. But we have a place here for OT. This certain group keeps posting the same stuff in every thread. I dont think that adding them to ignore is the answer because their back and forth continues despite the fact that I cant see it. That adds useless fluff to the thread. Off topic, "flirty" chat should be moved by a mod to a specific OT thread so as not to disrupt the flow in the original thread. Then they can chat their hearts content and not offend the majority. God knows that if you dare to question moderation or some other things your, post / thread is wiped real quick.. Its not like the mods are scared to use the delete key.

JJ agree with the lately increased nonsense blabber, I think a new topic forum is in order ,... call it the -->( Hay loft ) anyone wanting to talk foolish nonsense can climb into the "Hay loft" to start their personal threads, Howl at the moon, flirt or amuse them selfs or what ever, just be sure to lock the door so the young folks can't get in to read whats going on, ;)
Leave the front porch to those who still have interesting subjects that are not necessarily tractor or farming related,

Interesting to whom? What subjects would you allow, and what subjects would you disallow?

Yeah, but very few folks are going to limit idle chatter to one forum.
Politics stay in one forum because the mods will move or delete a political post.

Everyone who's a member of course!

Bird... Seriously?

What subjects would you allow,
Any civil subject not having to do with hounding over a female's picture, ( Pay a compliment if you must and move on)

and what subjects would you disallow?
Any subject or comment that would imply a derogatory statement,

Is exactly what I'm suggesting, when the threads become polluted with unnecessary blabber move those replies over to the Hay loft,

Alternatively, the threads could be moved to the front porch, or the posters could refrain from dragging threads so far off topic.

Yes, the front porch is the chit chat forum. You can update your subscription to access that forum here: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/profile.php?do=editusergroups

You can also ignore members who you don't feel are worth reading posts from. Do so by visiting their profile and then clicking "Add to ignore" list on the left side of the profile page.

Good advise from the boss.
I've kidded with some members at times but only remember doing so in the restricted areas. Can anyone point to a thread that has gone to chit chat that isn't in that area or wasn't started for the purpose of chatting, ie: the Texas thread or the Pig thread?

That one was originally under Related Topics but got moved to the Front Porch.

I told them posting those pictures was a bad idea and things got strange after that.

Hmmm. I stopped following that thread after a while, I should revisit it and make sure I wasn't one of the "thread de-railers".

Surely you were joking about charging for a post!

Well, they are both in restricted areas and the second, if started in related was intended to be chit chat from the start, no?

Sure, why not. I do live in a country with free speech, but rules are rules, and/but stay the he** on topic.

If I had the power I would definitely remove the chit chat from specific post if off track and ban for a day or two. A simple post from administrators [ STAY ON TOPIC ] doesn't sound to harsh.

If nothing is done, it will continue to explode and tell the chit-chatters it is OK.

What are the limits of the administrators if not to clean up, move, warn and maybe keep things on topic. And no, I would not want that job as there are to many that use any forum to chit-chat, and offer no intelligence on the topic.

I do use the ignore list and those on it are the ones that constantly have nothing to say intelligent about the topic and babble on, and chit-chat just like Facebook.

Those that don't like what I say, can put me on their ignore list. I don't mind at all.

The problem is what when the mods do that, there end up being 3 pages about censorship this and first amendment that (for those inclined to do so, this is a private forum and as such, the first amendment does not apply).

Well, they are both in restricted areas and the second, if started in related was intended to be chit chat from the start, no?
Both were moved to the front porch and both veered off the topics of the original posters (from why people dont post, to people posting their pictures and others commenting on them for example).
