Christmas Light Question

   / Christmas Light Question #11
I would take a working bulb out of the socket next to the one that is burned out and try it in the bad socket. This is just in case that your replacement bulbs are accidently the wrong voltage. If this fails to work, check the voltage in the bad socket with a voltmeter and the voltage in a good socket and see if they are the same. If the voltage is the same, then we go to the next step.....

Is the next step the garbage can?:D

I'll take a stab at it!!!
The bulbs are wired in series. You have a short down stream of the bulb that is blowing. The bulb that is blowing is acting as a fuse. Gets a little bright and them burns the filliment out. the bulb is the weak link, not the circuit breaker or fuse in the panel. If you want put an amp clamp around one side of the string you will see a nice inrush of current and then the bulb will pop.

AS far as the shunts closing to keep the string going you probably have one that is bad causing a short.

Good luck

That's usually the second step for me...
If shaking and juggling the entire string doesn't get it to work, then they go into the trash can.

I'm glad most of you have more patience to work with the lights than I do!

I know it is getting too much current. I just can't figure out why, since no other bulbs in the set are out and only this socket pops 'em like fuses instantly. It's more of a curiosity than anything else. It just isn't clicking with me and I'm disappointed that I can't figure it out. :(

Buy this product. It will find it for you.

Of course, the product is $25.00. You can buy a lot of light sets for that price. But, by watching their video, you can find the light and repair most problems without taking the lights off the tree. That can be priceless. :D
I guess I'm like others on TBN. Throw the lights out when they do not work. Just after Thanksgiving I saw this post by Golfgar4 . He claims the Light Keeper Pro is the way to fix lights.

I just bought my LightKeeper Pro Saturday night at Lowes. It was $16.99. I'm going to go outside here in a little bit and try to fix a deer (or should that be Deere:D )

I just picked up a Lightkeep Pro at Lowes for $8.50 about 20 minutes ago. Everything Christmas related is on 50% clearance. I'll let you know how it works tonight.
