If'n I can recall correctly them first icecream makers used good ole armstong belts.
Who get's to lick the paddle?

Why not just use a pair of pillow blocks and a tumbling rod?
Put a large gear on the ice cream maker, and a small gear on the shaft, and commense making ice cream.

The rod/shaft going from the PTO output shaft to the implement input shaft.
Also known as a whip rod in some circles.

I came across this link today, http://mars.ark.com/~squeeze/ag-can/ag-book.htm, which includes plans for both a cider press using hydraulic jack and also a small hammer mill for macerating the apples. The press is sized for a 3000 lb jack and looks like it would do a good job.

If you check the link you will need to page down a little to find the press information.

AndyF (et al) Thanks for all the good info. I printed out the link, good stuff. Thanks.

I hear the no metal contact, and thanks for the NO PVC comment, if ignorance is bliss, I was way too happy.

I was planning on using a stainless steel disposer to try to avoid the metalic contamination. Who knows, maybe I'll find an old cider mill (apple grinder) at a farm sale if I attend enough of them.

It isn't a DIY project to build but I found some NEW but old fashioned design presses and given the wife's love of old used and old used looking stuff (she says antique) I will get one of them and be ready next year. We had some thunderstorms which basically cleaned the trees out and put the crop on the ground. I salvaged a lot off the ground that didn't get broken open but the majority were lost. I have less than a bushel in total still on the trees. At least I got plenty of good info on how to make Champear(?) Pear juice champagne. I got lots of other good advice too. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Ice cream, pear icecream? I wonder if you could use an old paint shaker (holds two each 1 gal cans) to makek icecream. Put the ingredients in the cans, put the cans in the shaker, and the shaker in a large freezer and let her rip. Probably wouldn't "finish" the job too well as the mix got stiff. Probably better to stay with paddles.

Patrick;

For apples it is 60# per sq inch. Get cloth and perferatated plastic separators from OESCO Inc. They come in several sizes.

Also... apples are to cider as pears are to perry. this is not juice it is an alcoholic drink.

On an ooooold note... some time ago you mentioned that your neighbour had a CBT tractor. Do they still have it? What model is it? I have a CBT 8240.
