My daughter came in from Indiana where she lives to visit this weekend. Jim her boyfriend came along to meet us. He's a city kid who has never been on a tractor before. I got him up on the TC-40D today and gave him a 5 minute pep talk before pointing him toward the mud. In this picture he is actually on his way back to the house looks like he's studying the dash.

I made him crawl back up so I could get a close-up shot. I think he approved of the ride.

I still remember the first time I crawled up on a tractor too. I was smiling also /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Murph he could be the one and it scares me too.

Ron he played with it in the mud but I'm the one that will be doing the cleaning. Isn't that the way it is with kids today?

Mike; It looks more like he's jerking around in the seat to get it to go faster. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Are you sure he didn't have the E brake on? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

John he actually did when he started out but I quickly caught that and showed him how to disengage the brake. I'm thinking Jim was just plain having a darn good time.

Those pics remind me of going up to my uncles place. You never left there without riding the tractor, (an old Ford) the Jeep, and anything else fun to use! Jim reminds me of myself 15 years ago!

Good pics PineRidge!

What is up with this, he is smiling but his clothing is still clean, throw some mud on that boy, show him how a real tractor ride should be.

Well you learn something new every day. Last night I took the family (6 of us) out to a nice dinner. When we got back to the house Jim tells us that he can play the violin and I'm like yeah right. So he drags this violin out from a very expensive looking case that he brought along and his face changes to a very serious look, and he proceeds to play for the next hour.

I wish someone had a camera to take pictures of the wife and me cause I know my mouth was open in disbelief. turns out Jim has been playing the violin for 16 years. The one that he brought with him set him back 18K and he said it was a cheap one compared on a scale of real instruments.

See if you can pick out his picture from this web site

Although I'm still not yet ready to run out the door and start a collection of violin cd's what I heard last night coming from Jim and his violin was truly amazing to say the least. And this old dog learned another lesson in life. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mike; I'll bet he's the 2nd one down with Jim as his first name? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Sounds like you like this kid. Nothing wrong with that! Did you get chills listening? Live and personnal performances do that to me. Especially bagpipes. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

John he is a nice kid and what's more important is my daughter likes him too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You're right I got chills listening to Jim play, and it was easy to see that it was a passion of his that he was dead serious about.

You are going to have to change the name of the thread. Sounds like someone else got converted. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would have to hear him play some Charlie Daniels before i passed judgement on his playing. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Make sure you show him the backhoe. Go over the specifications of it, how it works and ask him which part of the yard he wants to be burried in if he ever hurts your daughter. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I don't think the kid's converted until he starts calling his instrument a fiddle.

The backhoe idea sounds good. I dread the day my little girl starts courting.

BTW: What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle anyway?

/ City Kid Converted #18
the music that comes from it.

violin, soft and orchestatic ?

fiddle, you can not hold your feet still.

Oh and on the daughter, not that bad, mine moved out of here and in with the bf last year. she is still welcome here but I love the empty nest syndrome we have. Our kids were 7 and 10 when I met my wife, so we never had an empty house.

I still think he needs some dirt on him.

Mike, my daughter is also a violinist. I'd suggest you have Jim check ebay next time he needs a new one, my daughter's set me back $69 plus shipping. But then again, she is only 10. Usually sounds like she is declawing a cat with a pair of pliers when she plays, but every once in a while some good music comes out of that thing! I'm hoping she keeps getting better, but I have looked at the prices of the better "student" grade violins and even the cheap ones will set you back the price of a decent used car!

As for the son-in-law thing, I just make a habit of cleaning guns when boys come around. I figure if they are scared of me when they are 10 then they might not come around later. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
