This is another one of "those" threads. My L3400 manual says, "The CJ-4 engine oil is intended for DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) type engines, and cannot be used on this tractor." What sucks about that is, every single diesel oil container I looked at today says CJ-4 in the API circle.
Here's what I find confusing: People on here will say that Kubota is just covering their rear-ends and since they make more than just tractors...and to just use CJ-4. My tractor-specific manual says not to use it.
Also confusing is, all the oil I saw today says it meets or exceeds CH-4 and CI-4, but in the little API circle it says CJ-4. The manual says use CF or better with a TBN of 10 minumum. Everything I saw fit this but the little label says CJ-4.
I saw a lot of (what I thought) was good diesel oil on sale but didn't buy any of it due to the API label. I'd ask you guys to kick me around and straighten up my confusion here, but I'll get 15 different answers and I'll probably still be confused afterwards....somebody who knows 100% for sure please tell me what I need to know here....
Spec. "ACEA C3", it means it is suitable for engines with a diesel particulate filter. This is another one of "those" threads. Call or email Kubota. Get it straight from them.
If Kubota knew anything(they should) they should know not all HDEO's are ACEA C3 rated low SAP oils, and CJ4 can be used with out issues.Maybe everybody should do that, instead of posting things like this here! Funny thing is, I already got it straight from Kubota in printed form, in my manual. I could get Kubota-branded oil from the dealer, for 2x the cost, I suppose.

^^agreed......Kubota has been behind the times for years.
...In my eyes use any diesel oil in then Kubota.
...The ACEA C3 spec is NON USA here so why should people in the USA care?
