I have a Ford 4000 industrial series backhoe loader. 1957. Just lately i noticed a loud clacking sound coming from the rear end. It started only when in reverse. Now it's forward also. Sounds terrible. Any thoughts? Dan
I'm not familiar with pie weights. Also,if I broke a gear is it fixable without separating the rear from the tranny?
if its just the ring gear or spider gear yes if its the pinion no
I wonder why that would be???
surely not.. because whitetiger says it can't be done...

I don't own a LD or HD industrial.. but IMHO.. much of the difference was inthe front axle.. I don't think ford offered much int he way of a diffy lock till 65... rickb or Whodat would know more.. I'm not as up on the 65+ 3 cyl models as i am on the 55-64 4 cyls..
