My 2007 BX has been making a loud clanking noise, that sounds like repeatedly hitting a piece of flat bar with a ball peen hammer. It does it randomly and some time changing the engine RPMs will make it stop. Sometimes it just stops after a while. This has been going on since it was new and the tractor now has about 100 hrs. on it. The noise seems to be coming from the engine area. I have tried many times to locate the problem, but have had no luck. All the engine brackets appear to be in good shape. Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas as to what would be causing it? The tractor runs great.

I noticed that after I did my 50hr service my bx24 was a bit noisier at low rpm. I took apart the front hood etc., to get to the oil filter, so maybe I didn't get the plastic back into alignment properly. A little shot on the throttle after starting make her purr again...

The hood on my BX2200 rattles loudly at low idle-speeding up the engine makes the noise go away (or pressing down on it with my hand).

I had that same problem. All of a sudden, that "noise" would happen for 10-20 seconds and then go away.

It happened 3-4 times with about 50-100 hours on my machine and has not happened since. I now have about 300 hours on it and it has not happened since.

The noise scared the heck out of me when it first happened .... it did not sound healthy at all.

I guess all you can do is make sure you have enough oil in the engine and cross your fingers (unless you can get to make the noise to the dealer)

Oh, that. That's the engine. You'll get used to it.

Kidding.

All kidding aside, my BX24 still scares the crap out of me every time I start it. I did a count around my vast spread (5 acres) and realized that I have 24(!) gas engines (that run). My kubota is the first diesel I've ever owned and I'm still not used to the rocks-on-the-barn-roof clatter that it makes. Keith's comment had me laughing for several minutes, but it's actually the truth!:D :D :D

Open the hood. Look for the manifold cover that says "HOT" on it. Now follow it towards the front of the tractor. The small metal flange that covers the furthest end of the manifold needs to be bent slightly outward. That should fix it. I hope this information helps.

Thanks. That's the area the noise seems to be coming from, but since nothing was loose there, I figured it was something else. Mine has about a 1/16" clearance between the cover and the 90 degree bend that connects to the muffler, if that's what it's called on a Kubota. Got any idea how big a gap I will need to stop the noise?

Thanks for the info. I had the same problem with my BX24. Quite a scary sound on a new tractor. Bent the flange out and no more clanking.
