Years ago I bought some slick-50 oil treatment and put it in my truck and sent in the registration card. Then while driving home one day the oil pump died. I don't know how long I was driving before I looked down and saw the oil pressure gauge on zero. I immediately shut off the engine and pulled over, but thought the damage may have already been done. To my surprise, no damage to the main bearings. I credit that to the slick-50.
A couple of years later I received a letter from an attorney telling me that I had been entered into a class action suit against the slick-50 makers. Wait a minute, I never asked to be part of this! And I was happy with the product! But I read the letter anyway... it said that as a member of the class, they would try to get me $20 (only 20 bucks?) if they one the suit.
I had to jump through hoops and write several letters to GET OUT of the class action suit because I wanted no part of it.
Summary: class action suits only benefit attorneys, and they are often unfounded.
