Very well documented transition of land, and a very nice place to boot!

Thanks everyone! I cleared underbrush and cedar trees from the area between our driveway and pond... The first pic is after going through with the Kubota and pushing out the bigger stuff. The second is after some chainsaw, boxblade, and handheld brushcutter work.

You are going to miss having something to do shortly. It looks great.

Nice tree grove. It looks like you opened it up enough to make bush hogging easy. That's the key to no do-overs five years later.

Looks great and like Dave said, it's going to make bush hogging it a lot easier. You might even want to take out a few more of the smaller trees just to cut down on some of the obstacles of keeping it mowed.

I wish I could update more but I am so short on time with a new baby. My wife and I are also in the process of adopting a little girl and that is very time consuming with lawyer visits, court dates, and visitations with her and family. We have also moved to a new rent house and we canceled our DSL Internet. Now I'm strictly using my phone for internet and it is not nearly as convienant as our laptop!!

We went ahead and hired a local builder to build our home. Concrete is done and the framers start tomorrow, August 4th. The best picture I have of it right now I took after wetting down the concrete to help with curing. It was in the upper 90s the day it was poured and the two following days. I kept it wet continuously for those days until the weather cooled off to the 80s again and we had some rain move in. Some people said there was no need to do it but I figured it shouldn't hurt anything and maybe make it stronger in the long run with fewer cracks.

You can see the safe room in this picture. This will be accessible from the master bedroom and double as "my" closet. My wife will have her own, much larger, closet. Hers is accessed through the master bathroom. The safe room has approximately 24" deep by 12" wide concrete footings below grade and a 12" thick concrete slab. The walls are 8" of 4000psi concrete with 1/2" rebar on 12" centers. The footings and slab also have 1/2" rebar throughout... The door is a specialty door that is very heavy. I'm still a little nervous that the door is too light for a F4 or F5 tornado. My father in law and I are kicking around ideas to improve that aspect. It's only as good as it's weakest link and that's the door.

Same angle as above pic:

From garage side, this is what we will see driving up to it. The garage entry is on the left side. The color of the brick, trim, etc will be different.

The idea of a safe room sure is attractive. Evidently you are concerned about tornadoes. Did you consider a below ground safe room with an escape tunnel? What about a floor safe or do you intend the safe room to do that duty? Thanks for the pictures and updates I realize you are very busy. Good luck on the adoption turning out well.
