Wine snobs, beer snobs, now coffee snobs. I drink a lot of coffee, and it seems to me that the main thing is freshness. I'm not about to roast my own, and the local places that do are fairly proud of their product. Some are justified. However, I can buy a brand of bulk whole bean, called Biffs (out of Jacksonville, apparently) at my local discount grocery for $6.99/lb. At that price, it turns over rapidly. The beans are always nice and oily looking. I grind enough for a couple of days at a time for use in a French press. I make it at about coffee shop strength and it is never bitter. I have no idea if the Columbian is 100% Columbian, and I don't find it all that much different from the House and Breakfast blends. They all come out good to my taste. I do have a friend who makes coffee at work and is into different blends. I can taste the difference, but again, if the beans are fresh and the roast is to my liking, the coffee is good. I do prefer the press to a drip, and I don't even mind the grounds at the bottom of the pot!
