" Lately I dump in some sugar, cream, honey, cinnamon - and it's good for my arthritis! "

So how much do you weigh and what is your cholesterol and are you worried about diabetes...I mean, when you say dump in...yikes...sugar, cream, honey...you may fix your arthritis some but the calories have to be off the chart.

I prefer the small estate coffee. If I was closer you could see the tractor tire marks from turning the beans over.

My Grandma was too. And yes, I wish she was around so we could do more baking and cooking :D
...

Granny raised four kids by herself. The Old Man was off fighting wars and eventually they divorced and she raised fours kids on a teachers pay when teachers really were paid close to nothing. She learned how to throw food together quick. :D

There are a couple of ways to make French Toast and I still like her way. The eggs barely beaten so you pretty much had a fried egg around a piece of bread. Might not sound so good but it was morish as Granny would say. Morish meaning you wanted more. :D

What I really liked, but seldom ate, was her Chicken and Dumplings. FLAT dumpling of course, not those plump dough balls my Yankee Grandma would make. Yankee Grandma would put BEANS into Chicken and Dumplings! <shudder> :D

One of my Granny's favorite stories she like to repeat was when I was 18ish. My parents went off somewhere for the weekend and I wanted Chicken and Dumplings. I went to the store and bought a chicken. :D Then called Granny so she could tell me how to make Chicken and Dumplings. She loved to talk about that phone call. Of course Granny did not have a "recipe," she just put it all together. Sure was good though.

Later,
Dan

My goal in life is to be the kind of Grandpa that kids still talk about fondly well after I'm gone. The kind of Grandpa that they have amazing adventures with.

I want to be that guy.

I'm working on it! Step 1 is to be a great Dad, firm yet fun & loving. My kids are 26, 13, 11, and TODAY my baby is 3.

No grandkids yet, so I've still got time to improve. I've still got a ton of stuff to learn about horses, farming, ranching, tractors, building things, welding, etc... It is all part of the plan...

Be well.

Ah, but he's also adding cinnamon. Just 2 teaspoons a day is good for you...

Today the Mrs. and I drove to a large multi cultural farmers market and I had a cup of the best coffee I have ever had in my life ...It was Decaffeinated Colombian Coffee..all I can say is it made me into a convert...We usually drink Maxwell House Decaf....what a difference...Probably too expensive to drink all day but we will be drinking it in the morning for the first cup..I guess we just always stuck to what we were used to.

We have tried Starbucks but to us it always tasted like burnt coffee...this was really full bodied and good ...the after taste made it addictive...Just passing it on in case anyone else is in the dark as much as we obviously were as far as the coffee choices out there...but we do live in the country...
No caffeine, no coffee!

It's like a cigarette with no nicotine

It isn't about the actual coffee in my opinion, it is about what you use to make it.

For example:

Coffee made with milk is OK, but not fantastic,
Coffee made with cream is very good,
Coffee made with evaporated milk (the gloopy kind) is sensational.

Eddie is about the only poster that mentioned water. The most expensive brew system and coffee available still needs good water. My current place and my last place both have great water for coffee. Even bottled water does not guarentee a good taste, seems like the mineral content needs to be just right.

I too have just about a life long love for coffee. Before the interstate came through when I was growing up, we had three diners withing a few miles of each other. This was back in the days of B model Macks and GMC crackerboxes. I started washing dishes on the midnight shift on the weekend at twelve. (The bars would close and the diners would jump until about five or six am, what an eye opener for a twelve year old) Coffee and home made pie! Those old chrome diners hold a special place for me but that's another thread.

While there are plenty of good choices out there, I get by with good old 8 o'clock whole bean. I grind my beans every morning for my little four cup Mr. Coffee. (Like George Thorougood, I drink alone) And I drink it black of course.

Tried a Cusinart pot with all the bells and whistles and when it got "confused" one morning, I gave it a stress test on my driveway.

Personally, I don't care for Maxwell House. And I don't get the Starbucks attraction either? Been awhile so things might have changed but I used to stop at Pilot for their coffee. Good bang for the buck. Wife and I had breakfast out at Bob Evans this morning. They brew up a pretty good cup too. Millstone Foglifter is pretty good but pricy compared to 8 o'clock. Dunkin Donuts is good but it wires me out too much. What ever your choice, enjoy!
