Hi Robert

Got any pictures of the process?

Okies, here is a pic. I'll also amuse you all with this idea ...
I have a La Pavoni Europiccola Lever machine. You have to manually press down on a lever with considerable force to force the hot water through the coffee puck. There is no pump or motor like in an espresso machine. I was thinking to add a hydraulic connection to the interior cab of a tractor with it just stopped down a bit to provide pressure for a lever espresso machine. It would be really cool :)

Eddie is about the only poster that mentioned water. The most expensive brew system and coffee available still needs good water. My current place and my last place both have great water for coffee. Even bottled water does not guarentee a good taste, seems like the mineral content needs to be just right.

Distilled water makes the best coffee, no matter the brand of coffee you prefer.

We also have a Keurig K-Cup machine. At first I didn't care, don't need coffee anyway; but after 1 cup i was hooked. As we use to waste 1/2 a pot a day or skip it due to time, now I get a cup to go in under 30 seconds. The wife liked all the fancy flavor's, I like a coffee and just got hooked on the hot apple cider. The coffee is more expensive per cup, but lest waste for us.

My wife has a Keurig also and uses it quite often, I will use it when one cup of decaf is in order.

Watched a show on DOC or one of the cable channels about Keurig, pretty interesting and surprising no one had thought of it before. They seem to be doing a brisk business. I think they are located somewhere in Tennessee??

I love my coffee, and I am always on the hunt for a better cup. Folgers, Maxwell House....so, so...okay for an average cup. Tim Horten's and Macdonalds are fine for out on the road.....I get intimidated by Starbucks and their "half/caff-double decaf with a lime twist" or their "mocha grande' lattes with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles"....wow, how do you buy just a regular?
I bought a Cuisinart coffee machine with grinder, found a 1kg bag of Zavidas Columbian beans at Costco and now have a fresh ground cup(s) daily:thumbsup:
Friends and family are so impressed, I may have to start charging them and open my own coffee shop:laughing:

Hi all

Yeah you have to remember that Starbucks do "coffee flavored drinks" but don't actually "do coffee". They went bust in Australia here as they expanded rapidly like many other franchises and didn't know that it's a different market here than in the US. Customers compare their lattes and cappuccinos to the many specialist coffee places that are around using local specialty roasters.

The cartridge system is not new. Years ago when I worked with Italian engineering company each of us got one week supply of coffee and cream cartridges every Monday morning.

Gevalia- almost all of their coffees are great. I grind a pot every day and drink 4-5 cups per day. I find I can't buy a cup that tastes as good as what I make, Starbuck included.

When I was growing up I would go with my dad to work Cattle on the ranch. While waiting for everyone to arrive someone would make coffee. Most of the time it would be made in a can over wood fire with the grounds dumped in boiling water. Funny everyone would have their own cup "no styrofoam here" but they wouldn't bring a coffee pot. They would however bring the frying pans for the "Mountain Oysters".

I couldn't drink coffee for years after. When I joined the Marine Corps the first thing we did was make a 3 galllon Urn of coffee to last the 14 hour night watch. Before the Day watch came on we made anouther Urn of coffee. It was always bad but we drank it.

I liked Gevalia. At first. The coffee was very good. I was buying Kona and it was NOT cheap. After a few years the quality declined and when I found out that Folgers was tasking better than Gevalia's Kona that was the end of Gevalia for me.

Nobody makes coffee as good as mine either. I put a pinch of salt in the grounds along with sugar. GOOD.:D

If you guys ever see Farmers Brothers Coffee truck delivering to restaurants just ask the driver and he will sell you 5 pounds.

When I worked in restaurants they served Farmers Brothers and we got hundreds of compliments a day on the coffee.

I personally am not much of a coffee person. My older brother, is a heavy coffee drinker - and swears by his Bunn maker.

Velocity Brew BX | Bunn

I don't know if this is his exact model, but he spent quite a bit on it several years ago - and swears the Bunn can make cheap grounds taste great.

We have a Mr Coffee for those times we serve coffee...and my brother says it makes a terrible cup compared to his maker.

The Bunn is made in Springfield, Illinois about two miles from i set now at work.

 I forgot about the egg shell in the coffee. One of my grandmothers did this and totally forgot about it until you mentioned it. :D

I just googled WHY you would do this. It is supposed to take away the bitterness of the coffee and if using the old stove top perculator's it helped keep the grounds "settled." I might try this over the weekend.

I had two people in my life that swear adding salt to the coffe makes it less bitter.....they get mad when I say "Why don't you just spinkle it in your coffee cup and not the rest of the pot"

To me it just tasted salty.....

I do put a little, itty, bitty pinch of salt in the coffee grounds and it does mellow out the coffee. It is Kosher salt so it is just salt not table salt which has chemicals added.

If I add egg shells and salt to the coffee, I wonder if it will be S M O O T H? :D

Egg shells I might could deal with, but the thought of salt, just doesn't do it for me:laughing: I prefer mine Black and in the 10w-40+ variety:D
