Oil & Fuel Cold rookie mistake

   / Cold rookie mistake #41
I add anti gel as soon as temps hit 40 degrees and have not had any problems over the years. Start adding anti gel early, it's worth the the extra money in aggravation. For your problem I would drain the tank and add winter diesel with anti gel; if you have a way to tarp your tractor and add a good heater you wont have to change your fuel filter (s). Let it heat up good and once started run it long enough to disperse all the untreated fuel from the system, that should do it.

I use power service year round and don't
have any problems with gelling. So always
ready for the cold snap

In Texas? When was the last time fuel gelled there?

It can happen in the Panhandle I would think.

My nephew on the farm in SD tells me he often runs #2 diesel all winter except for a few cold days - although he does use some additives in the #2. We didn't do that when I was younger. He said some of the additives are so good he rarely has issues.

I wouldn't think there would ever be a time in Texas that you would need to worry about it unless the fuels are different there.
