Comfort Ride - new product by W.R. Long

Well, I went ahead and ordered the W.R. Long CR10 kit for my 4540 after reading some positive comments. Got it in this morning. Gonna install it in the next couple days and I'll report back with my thoughts.

I'm looking forward to hearing about it. Since reading this thread, I've debated putting one on my tractor - I'm a little worried about catching it on something with all of my woods work, however,

Looking forward to your review. Made a big difference in my use.

Mr. Smokeydog, do you have any pics with it mounted?

Mr. Walt, interested in your mount location also! And perception of performance.

The instructions in the kit say to mount it on the inner side of the upper loader arm that does not have any hard lines present, so the opposite of whichever side your loader controls are on. That'd be the left side for me and I think most other users as well.

I eyeballed it today, looks like it should fit in the indicated location without any clearance issues. My only concern is the instructions say to secure the mounting bracket to the loader arm using (4) supplied self-tapping screws.

I suppose they'd be fine since that's what the manufacturer calls for, but I personally have had enough issues with self tapping screws to be weary, especially given the weight of the accumulator setup (about 9 lbs.) and the potentially high vibration conditions of the loader arms while back dragging or something. I'll most likely drill the holes, install rivet nuts, and secure it to the loader arm with small grade 8 bolts.

I kind of like doing stuff in an overkill manner like that, I'd rather take the extra time while installing it and theoretically reduce the risk of having to mess around with repairing it while halfway through a project at a later time.

I just mounted mine on the tractor, close to the loader valve. It stays with the tractor all the time, plus the ball valve is right by the loader valve, easy to reach from the seat.

That sounds like a pretty good option, I like the idea of being able to reach the ball valve from the seat.

Mounted soft ride system above the 3rd function solenoid valves cover. Sits tucked back by the FEL tower and engine. The FEL on the M59 is not QA. Easy to operate ball valve from operator station.

Had to grind a notch in the FEL tower gusset shown by the black line. To not pinch the new line teed to lift cylinder when fully raised.

System is guarded well for forestry work.

The 10,000psi gauge works well and very repeatable with known loads weight and load attachment point. Big surprise is the dynamic pressure increase over the tractors hydraulic pump pressure. By lifting max 2,800psi then curling max and pushing forward can double the lift pressure. No relief valve on that side of the control valve.

Can also see how the soft ride system significantly reduces the pressure spikes when transporting loads.

One con of the digital gauge eats batteries in cold weather. Hadn’t tried Lithium batteries yet.

I would try to minimize hole drilling in the loader arms. Try to round any sharp edges to prevent a stress raisers points. Made weld a bracket or bolt studs?

It would be interesting to see a pressure spike comparison with and without the accumulator cushion operating but might take a recording gauge to accomplish.

On earlier post did have some comparison numbers driving around with some logs in the grapple. Not only helps comfort but with maintaining traction going up slopes with loads I feel.
Be a challenge with my videographer skills.

So from experience...how is the ball valve used?

Does it require adjusting or changing during routine FEL use?
