Then I'll want a lower pressure as all I want to do is take the sock out when roading on Michigan's sucko roads.
I was reading some stuff about the inert gas used on these things and looks like argon will work just fine. If you want to read a bit more: Guidelines for Understanding and Maintaining Hydraulic Accumulators

So you could just buy the kit to charge the accumulators and play with pressures till you find the right spot for your needs.

They appear to be mass produced automotive grade accumulators probably the reason for the size. Aircraft, military or industrial version cost 20x$ well out the league of ag tractors. Saw a video of a military JCB backhoe carrying a bucket full of gravel at high speed on rough road. Incredible stability.

I had hydraulic pressure on the loader lift arm cylinders 6,000 psi. Lift, add curl and forward push. Monitor active pressure.

One of mine with soft ride has lost a lot of its effectiveness. I don’t know if the accumulator balls lost their charge or blew a seal or something. Balls are like $300 each!

I value mine much more than $300.

There’s 2 of them.
One is $379.52
The other is $325.84

So the cost to replace is more like $700.
Still worth it, though I agree.
Thing is, I have a front suspension that helps, too.

…Too high of a pressure and it will only work with a decent amount of weight on the loader. To little pressure and it won't soften the ride that much.

Mine is precharged to 700 PSI and I find it to be a bit too much as it will only work with a full bucket of dirt.

Yep. Thus Long’s 2 accums - one has low charge and one high. Works with unloaded or loaded bucket.

Accumulators tend to leak over time just like many gas-filled devices. The charge never lasts forever. They will periodically need charging.

I could wrong but don’t see how the Kubota and McCormick accumulators I have could be recharged. I see some that can. Some may only be replaced. Be good to know if dealer could recharge.

The Kubota kit came with lots of hoses, hard lines, complicated manual valve, accumulators and brackets. Wasn’t made for my model. Only used accumulators, one bracket and modified the rest. Not sure why Kubota’s system was overly complicated but they probably had a good reason. Glad it worked even though I had a box full of extra parts.

That all depends entirely on the gas tightness of the fittings (on the gas side) and the permeability of the bladder inside the vessel.

The one thing to always remember is... NEVER CHARGE WITH AIR. You always charge with an inert gas, I talked to Motion Industries tech line yesterday and yes, you can use Argon versus Nitrogen. The issue arises because the charge has to be at high pressure, much higher than any conventional compressor is capable of.

Consequently, to charge them you need a PCP or SCUBA compressor charging with inert gas, not ambient air. What I'll probably do is machine a fitting to fit one of my gas regulators for my shielding gas for my TIG welder and use the high pressure side to recharge mine (if they need recharged at all) and to regulate the charge pressure. Of course that will all be when I fabricate my own setup this summer.

A bit more to them than meets the eye.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the W.R. Long CR10 kit for my 4540 after reading some positive comments. Got it in this morning. Gonna install it in the next couple days and I'll report back with my thoughts.
