The price difference is considerable. On the 'Cheaper than Dirt' website the SC is around $200, Charter 44 special around $400, and the cheapest 38 special is a Rock Island for around $250. Since the secondary use for the weapon is shooting birds inside a shed I think (usually get in trouble when I try thinking) the 38 and 44 would be too powerful. Also I have a 38 Special already and I usually have a Ruger LCP in my pocket when down in the bottoms.

Hey 'the old grind', I appreciate your comments on the Comanche. And I will agree with you on the dual-purpose equipment. Sometimes it just doesn't do either job adequately. What I want/need is a specialized snake/inside bird killer. High accuracy is not needed. A quick shot with a target area of a few inches is sufficient.

Just thought of a third use for a SC. We saw very few rabbits, groundhogs, etc in the fields last year but there were huge numbers of either rats or super field mice. I would pull out and chase them trying to mow them down. SC would be a good rat killer while sitting on the Kioti.

I appreciate everybody's comments and keep them coming. This is what is great about TBN. Ask a question and even the replies that don't directly answer make you think.

Is there any law against you buying a .410 shotgun and chopping both the barrel and stock down?

BTW, Bud's is showing them for $182 and they have a "make offer" option for it. I'm not sure about that particular piece, but in the past I've offered a deal at 10% less and they took it.

Just discovered a fourth target for a Comanche or other 410. My bird feeder in the back yard is swamped with starlings. I hate 'em. Watched them chase the cardinals and sparrows away at daylight this morning. Once again the lightweight #12 shot at a 10'-20' range would be great. And no worry about damaging a building 100' away. So if I get one of these I will lower the population of copperheads, rats, birds inside the stables, and unwanted types of birds around my feeder.

Sitting at the computer browsing websites (have a recovering from surgery father in law staying with us for a few weeks so I am staying close) I envision myself stepping out of the house to get on my CK20 ready to mow or do battle. Super Comanche with a Crimson Trace laser sighting system in a cross draw holster. Bandoliers of various types 410 and 45 Long Colt ammo across my chest. Snakes, rats, and birds fleeing in fear.......... What,.... shopping cart has over $1000 worth of accessories for a $175 single shot pistol/shotgun!!!!

Back to the original plan of cutting the end out of an old BB pistol holster and carrying my shells in a Wal-Mart sack.

Respectfully, a very bored, RSKY.

Yes. Since 1934.
They will give you a free tour of the interior of Leavenworth Federal Prison. I hear it is not pretty.

And you next question will be: "well what is the difference between chopping down the .410 single shot shotgun and this Comanche thingy?"..The difference is the Comanche has a rifled barrel, that makes the shot column spin, but then has a "thingy" on the end to catch the wad and stop the spin. You see gun laws are INSANE. All of them. They are written by people that are insane, and imposed on us. There is no rhyme or reason to the "Why" you cannot cut down a simple shotgun you already own, but when you take the hacksaw to it... Watch out. Big brother is gonna get you. You see gun laws are not logical, they are emotional. The concept of passing a law banning a "thing" like a gun is INSANE. It will never work, never has, never will. Back in the day when this law was passed, it was common for "crooks" to cut down shotguns to conceal under their coats and use them for nefarious purposes. Well passing a law sure stopped them HUH? But now a pistol you can conceal is OK. yep.. makes so much sense doesn't it. Any shotgun found in your possession with a barrel less than 18 inches or any rifle in your possession with a barrel less than 16 inches will send you up the river.

Oh, now your next question is "oh now wait a minute, you said any rifle with a barrel of less than 16 inches.. well the rifled barrel of the Comanche is only 10 inches. whats with that?".. Yes but you were not paying attention, I said a rifle less than 16 inches, you see the Comanche is a pistol, so it can have a shorter barrel.. see? Like I said, gun laws are INSANE!

If the snake is much over 10 foot away, I am thinking he isn't much of a threat anyway.:)

Have you ever encountered a po'ed water moccasin. I stirred one up with a weed eater near the pond. He was in the water coming up the bank in no time. I ended up fighting him off with the weed eater.

I had forgotten about them. Your right, they are a bit treacherous, and more than a little aggressive.

You certainly can take an inexpensive single shot .410 and cut it down to the legal minimum length-26" (I think). I have a 20 gauge that I did that to for a tractor gun.
