Compact Dump Trailer

Sometimes, impulse gets the best of you. I am about to place an order for the attached, sight unseen:

King Kutter Incorporated

It's a tandem wheel, 3,000 pd GVW dump trailer with a 50" x 70" bed and a hand operated hydraulic lift. It is designed for off road use only. As it turns out, I need a trailer that isn't much more than 4' wide, and I couldn't find a real (highway capable) dump trailer narrower than 5' feet. At $2K, it's not inexpensive, but still about half of the cost (or less) of a regular size dump trailer.

Before I got a BH for my CUT a few years ago, I never realized how often I would wish I had something to deposit material in while I was digging, clearing rocks, and the like. Running back and forth from the rental yard numerous times a year is a time consuming, unloading a pick up full of dirt by hand is exhausting, and piling up spoils just to pick it up again, one loader bucket at a time, always seems like double work to me. This way, someone can use my RTV and the dump trailer to move the material while I stay put and dig.

Also, this little trailer has sides that are removeable (to convert it to a flat bed), and a dual position rear gate, so that you can spread road base and other material like a dump truck. It's not often I make a major purchase without eyeballing the item, but no one within driving distance of me had one to look at. Even the closest TSC (60 miles away) has to order it in. By chance, has anyone seen or used this thing??

Pretty impressive write-up. I bet TSC would sell a lot of them if they would keep them in stock. Maybe they do sell a lot of them and that's why they aren't in stock??

That is a great looking trailer. I went with the 2 ton trailer from CMI Estate Wagons & Trailers for atv and lawn and garden and am extremely satisfied, especially for the price. I did a lot of research on this site and watched a couple of projects involving this little trailer. I wanted to limit my investment and the price was right. Just offiering an alternative way to spend your money .

Thanks for the info on CMI. Kenny, the past threads were very helpful too, especially the one that identified Pronovost, a Canadian company, as manufacturer of the KK XB.

There is certainly alot of value in the CMI trailer, especially if you have the time to outfit a hydraulic lift and modify the tail gate. Larger bed and load capacity for a fraction of the cost of the XB.

I really like the XB's metal bed and sides though. I will be using the trailer mostly to move moist earth, rocks and road base. Frequently, I will be sliding pallets in and out, and power washing the bed out, too. In the long run, metal will be more user friendly for all of that.

If anyone has experience with the KK XB or Pronovost P-503H, I'd love to hear about it.

I don't own a KK trailer but a local dealer had a couple awhile back. I looked em over once. They seemed to be well made if a little small for my needs. If I wanted a smallish trailer to use with a big atv or a small tractor I'd look these up again.

If anyone has experience with the KK XB or Pronovost P-503H, I'd love to hear about it.

I have owned and used a P-503H highway model for 5 years. I had the dealer install a QA connector so I could use the tractor hydraulics to dump it if I need to. It is one of the best tools I have. I use an EZMover Hitch System on the tractor and use the same ball on both the tractor and truck. So far it has been to CT to pick up a Jinma chipper, over 300 miles at Interstate speeds (no problems). Last week it was hitched to my tractor and a friend of mine came over with his BX24 and dug 150 feet of ditches. All dirt was loaded into the trailer and dumped in a pile using the tractor hydraulics. Went very fast. If I did not have to open the tail gate I would not have even had to leave the tractor seat.

All in all it is a very handy setup and I would do it over again. I don't know if TSC sells the highway version or not but if they do you will find many more uses for it than just the off road version.

I have always wondered, can you load one of these trailer with dirt when it is not hooked up to a tractor or vehicle? Or will it just tip over (front to back)?

PS I ask, becasue I would love to load one with a FEL, then hook up, pull it to a dump site and dump it.

If all you are worried about is emptying your truck easier, maybe you should consider this (and save yourself $1900).

Hi Riddler, I own a KK XB and it works great! I bought it from TSC and used it for moving rocks and dirt. I tried towing it with my ATV but it would not pull it, so I tow it with my B3030. My arms got tired from pumping the manual cylinder, so I talked to the guys in the hydraulics forum (thanks for the help guys) and since I have a WR Long grapple setup with the auxilary controls I ran a temporary line back to the XB bypassing the hand pump and now I can dump it without getting off the tractor!! This winter I will work on making it fully work, power raise, power lower, and in the Spring I am going to buy a BX2350 for mowing and have it set up with rear remotes so I can load with the B3030 and tow/dump with the BX2350.

Another example of why this forum is great. Just ask about something, and folks that know share their knowledge/experience.

I ordered the XB, but I will have to drive a hour to pick in up in a couple of weeks. I wish there was a TSC closer to my place.

The road ready version would be nice, but 90% of my need is on my property (I have 50 acres to deal with). If not for the fact that I need a trailer that fits between 6' wide vine rows, I would invest in a regular sized, road ready dump trailer. The XB is the most robust unit that fits.

Bigman and GreenMtns, is there any chance this thing can be shoe horned into the bed of a full sized pick up truck, or will I need to rent an equipment trailer to get it back home? I am hoping that with the tail gate of the truck down, there is a way to position the dump trailer so that the narrowest point in the truck bed (i.e., between the wheel wells) isn't a problem. Am I dreaming??

It will probably be well back on the truck but if you tie it down good you should be good to go. If it is not the highway version don't be tempted to tow it home behind the truck. It will not have high speed bearings and they will burn out on the way home.

As to loading it and then hitching up the tractor and going to dump, I do that all the time. Couple of things though. Try to be on as flat a ground as you can. And I use a trailer hitch with a 2" ball. I put the EZhitch on the tractor and when the trailer is full I back under the hitch and lift the 3pt until it engages the ball. You have to be a little careful with the loader as there is no counter weight on the back of the tractor but it does save a lot of time.

You can if you put a trailer jack on the tongue, fill it carefully, and have a tow ball that you can raise and lower hydraulically. You could probably do it manually with a big enough jack.

My dealer set mine up and all he did was tee into the line that came out of the pump. All you need is one line to the trailer. Use the side of the rear remote that has the "float detent". When you want to raise it push the lever to the flow position, To lower go into the detent and the weight of the box will lower it. It is really simple and simple is always good.


Line from the pump to the tee---line to the cylinder in one direction---line to the QA in the other.
When you are using the tractor, keep the pump knob closed.

Another testimonial for the Loadhandler, sure fooled me, works really well and is fast unload, lot cheaper than some of the alternatives. After I got my wagon and attached the Loadhandler, I found a KK dump trailer at an implement dealer for $1450, I would pobably bought that, although it is smaller, had I not already had my wagon.

There have been instances when I definitely could have used a device like the Loadhandler. Doesn't allow me to skip the dump trailer (I need the trailer to move materials between narrow vine rows), but for $100, it's a cost effective way to make unloading the truck much easier and faster. Thanks for the reminder.

I have a model P50710/4E Pronovost dump trailer. It is a little different than the one you are looking at, however, I can attest to the quality of their products. Top quality, heavy duty. Expensive, but worth it.

Lately, I have liked to play with the trailers. So, let me "up" this thread in which I'd like to share my small tip/dump trailer (2 tons - 4 x 8 x 1,5 ft) which I myself built it.

Nomad, you remind me that I failed to close the loop on this thread after I picked up the King Kutter dump trailer. I need to take some pictures and down load them.

So far, I have only used the trailer to move a few loads of gravel. It is super well built -- a small version of your typical, construction grade, dump trailer. It is perfect for me, because I had to have a quality trailer that wasn't wider than 50".

However, there is no denying that it is small. Also, although it is billed as a trailer that an ATV can tow, that's fanciful. The trailer weighs 600# empty. Loaded up with 2,500# of material, you are not going to want to move it with anything less than a modest size tractor.

If you aren't limited size wise (I was), it is hard to see why you would opt for this trailer, nice as it is, over a full size, highway ready, dump trailer. A light duty, single axle, full size dump trailer (e.g., 5,000# GVW) will do more than this compact unit, at only a modest increase in cost. The small KK is well designed certainly to move the heavy stuff (i.e., dirt, aggregrate, rocks, etc.), but its payload is just 3 times the payload of my loader bucket. Assuming you have a decent size loader to begin with, you have to decide whether it's worth $2K to save a few trips moving material with your tractor and loader.
