So, I’m excited about buying a YT235! I have a question for the committee: to cab or not to cab?

Cabs help with protection from cold, heat and swarms of bugs.

They can be a problem if you have low hanging trees.

mine is cab with heat or cab with heat and AC right now. Mine will be used for snow blowing, in upstate ny where we get lake effect and 30mph winds, if I dont get a cab on the tractor i my as well keep my walk behind snow blower and go that route.

Problem with cabs is it adds 5-6k second is if you want AC it forces you into up in models which you may not need.

I wont be mowing with my tractor and maybe taking doors and out will help I dont know at this point

When looking at loaders find one that will lift and curl back at the same time! It makes you look as good as a operator of a big pay loader!!! Many units only do lift or tilt but not both at the same time.

As for the cab decision, your age (not asking your age, haha) may factor into it. If you’re older the cab will protect you from sunburn, all the dust and pollen kicked up from mowing, stinging insects, wind, rain, and snow. Young bucks can handle all that but most folks in here love their cabs.

The YT235 has that feature! Thanks.

So, I will be the main operator, and I’m 61 years young. I have NO real time constraints—it’s not like I have to make hay while the sun shines. Sunscreen and a hat are cheaper than cabs. However, the cab appeals to me on some levels. Tell me if I’m right.

Pros: It will be quieter. It will protect me from bees while bush hogging. It will be cooler in summer and warmer in winter (we MAY use it to plow our 300 ft. driveway someday, but then again, we’ve been here 7 years and never had a situation where we HAD to get out in the snow. Basically, my husband works remote via satellite and my school teacher daughter parks her car at the end of the drive and never HAS to get out until busses run again after the snow, by which time it’s usually melted down pretty well. We generally have one or two good blizzards/year, and again, we can usually wait until the snow melts down to driveable, especially ‘cause we have a 4WD truck.) All the interior of the controller area are protected from the elements over the years, when the tractor gets left out, or in the dusty barn. (I don’t know if the latter is a real thing or not.)

Oh: and the dealer has an “extra” that he’s trying to move, so I’d be getting a “deal.” 23K rather than 26K.

Cons: It has a “closed in” feeling to it. (I love nature, or I wouldn’t be farming... Kinda takes away that “connected to the outside” feeling — which, with bees and heat and cold are a good thing, but on a nice day, outside is a Pro for me.) I wonder about a rollover: would the glass shatter and cause more injury than with an open tractor? Will the glass grow scratched over time? (We don’t have a lot of trees; just thinking of flying hay and other debris...) In winter... does it frost up so you spend time defrosting? Isn’t there more to “go wrong” — AC, Heat, windshield wiper, lights, etc?

SO: are these good lists? What am I missing?

$23K for a YT235 Cab? Only $2K more than the ROPS version? I’d jump on that in a heartbeat!

And yes, the cab protects the tractor, no dust and dirt in the controls, you can leave it out in the rain no worries.

I was quoted $27K not too long ago for a YT235C, so $23K is a good deal.
