To me, preparing a marketing plan for 20 HP to 180 HP tractors would be like preparing a marketing plan for Chevrolets to Ferraris. Other than both are cars (tractors), they are essentially unrelated.

I'm not preparing marketing plan. I'm working on a research paper.

Also one thing to consider is that there is quite a few tractor manufacturers that offer 20 to 180+ hp units (the whole range as my paper is concern) whereas there is no car manufacturer that offers Chevrolet like (daily drivers) "inexpensive" models all the way to Ferrari (exclusive line $300k+ sports car). In other words yes it is difficult but can be done.

Chevrolet vs Ferrari, well lets elaborate on this just a little bit. Whichever car you bought obviously you went through a decision process 1st. So what made you choose Chevrolet as opposed to Ford, Dodge, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Pontiac, Buick, Honda,...etc

What made you chose Ferrari over Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche, Pagani,...etc so I'm interested in the decision process mainly. I think there will be some common denominator I can extract from it. If not, I'll write about the lack of it. Simple as that, thank you for your input.

For the paper, I would be asking what size tractor? - For me;

25-35 Hp was my target. 28 hp is what I bought.

A) Price / Value Proposition - #1 for me.
B) Warranty & Reliability - #2 for me (but still got burned  )
C) Ease of Operation - (#1 for my wife (HST), who ok'ed the purchased ;)) was not that big of a deal for me (#3), but have grown to like HST.
D) Dealer Location / Service / Aftermarket Parts Availability - Did not really care but wanted parts availability (#4).
E) Country of Origin - Did NOT care about this at all (#5).

You're right; however, how can I definy target audience for 20 - 180hp tractors? What I'm after at the moment is more value curve for the users / operators / buyers. Of course it would make it easier for me if you could answer my question from the original post in each of these 4 tractor categories (as specified by the paper):
20-40hp
40-70hp
70-120hp
120-180hp

However, I might be asking little too much there, so I just took "realistic" approach and asked the members on here for general feedback in 20-180hp range.

Nonetheless, thank you for your input and if anyone else wants to elaborate on the buying decisions in the particular hp outputs listed above feel free :)

And of course any feedback in general is appreciated! Thanks guys!

to me this is a much easier post to answer.

I have a 49 horse tractor.

1) Price / Value Proposition
5) Country of Origin
2) Ease of Operation
4) Dealer Location / Service / Aftermarket Parts Availability
3) Warranty & Reliability

great job:) Thanks!

This will make it easier I should have thought about it earlier. From now on if you could post your hp output of your tractor and then list the 5 factors...basically follow the model above.

I wish I had thought about tractors when getting my mba, instead I did a financial analysis of Walmart... woo hoo what fun Anyways...

26 HP tractor

1. Price / Value
2. Reliability / Warranty
3. Ease of operation
4. Service / parts availability / dealer rep.
5. Country of origin - (Indian tractor (Mahindra), Japanese built (Mitsubishi), and sold in the US... quite a global undertaking:)

2. Price / Value
3. Reliability / Warranty
4. Ease of operation
5. Service / parts availability / dealer rep.
6. Country of origin

All right this is nice but time for a little truth in advertizing?

The main reason most guys purchase a specific tractor is because their wives allow them to.

P.S. I failed the above test years ago which is why I got to buy the tractor of my choice.
