Compact tractor Fatality

News reports are notoriously inaccurate. It's not an accident investigation. People come to all kinds of conclusions!

A ROPS must have some kind of certification to represent some standard of safety. Otherwise, I'm sure off shore manufacturers would build them to look solid but out of soup can material.

I would have no problem welding onto a rops, and drilling enough holes into it to make it look like swiss cheese, I am sure it would still perform it's function, just no longer be certified.

We are not talking about a D10 for crying out loud! Some people just don't get stuff like that, clearly!
a D10T can be bought so cheap, why wouldn't it be a D10T?. CATERPILLAR ALL D10 For Sale - New & Used CATERPILLAR ALL D10 Classifieds | Rock & Dirt

that's insane, a rops should NEVER be compromised!. there's no sense in having one if it can't protect you!. something similar is used in race cars going over 200 MPH, and they don't fail..

That's what I always assumed and was in disbelief myself. But he bought the BX just a few months prior and the Rops was always left up because it fit in his garage w/o needing to fold it. Perhaps the rops would support the tractor rolling over sideways on a slope, but not in his case rolling over while going forward at speed down a concrete drive.

I did notice many of them have no connection to the front of the tractor, weakening the protection.. but of course, it would not be foldable if it was made to be safe..

Don't expect to depend on the rops to save you. It is the minimal safety devise. I would bet 90 percent will fold if rolled over. They just aren't that well made and are only 2 point attached. But I'd bet this guy didn't have seat belt on. Too much trouble for just a minute or two on the tractor. No, I don't know for sure, but I'd bet money on it.
