I also have the same Acer unit as Roy, had it since Nov 06, it is on 12 hrs a day 7 days a week, no problems, really like it. It replaced a 17" Dell, Dell still works but I want a bigger LCD and the price was right. Gave the Dell to the wife. All 4 computers have LCD, you will kick yourself for not making the change sooner.

I'll just confirm what most others have said. No less than 19" LCD monitor, Digital and Anolog inputs, I haven't seen problems with Dell or Viewsonic monitors. I run two Dell 21" LCD monitors with no problems. You will like a larger monitor, trying to view items like "parts graphics" or "electrical diagrams" on the 15" or 17" monitors at work verses 21" monitor at home is a HUGE difference. The company is just starting to get some 19" monitors into the system now (dog-gone bean counters).

That was another advantage of LCD monitors on the ship. You didn't have to degause them on a daily basis like you did on the conventional monitors. Due to the changing magnetic fields as we moved across the sea, the conventional monitors and TV's onboard would develop color clouds and distorted images daily while underway.

That is why you used to need a TV installer/repairman to set up your TV when it was installed. He used an electro magnet to degaus the screen. Once they started building automatic degausing into the TV's, this need went away.

It all makes sense now, Roy, when did you return from Mars.....:D:D:D:D:D

Frank, I see you have your monitor. Another thing to consider is TWO monitors if you graphics card will support it. I can use my laptop with its monitor and a secondary monitor at the same time. Its SOOOOO nice to be able to look at a document on one screen while working on the other monitor.

Later,
Dan

As far as $$$ goes you might consider a refurb. My last 2 have been refurbs and b/c of the savings I was able to get a bigger screen than if Id bought new. Both are still cooking at this point and have survived 3 moves (two by 'professional' movers).

That's what I did. Current monitor is a 17" Dell LCD refurbished (cost a little less than a new 15"). The first they sent had a problem (one or 2 pixel wide yellow stripe from top to bottom near the right side edge that came & went). I called Dell & they sent another right out. Two days later it arrived. I packed the old one in the new box (as per their instructions) & sent it back on their call ticket. This one does have a little "mark" on it, but it's down below the clock at the bottom corner, so I can easily ignore it. Otherwise it's been just peachy for the last 2.5 years. :D And you can bet when it's time to get another one, I'll do it again!
