Concealed Carry and Consequences

/ Concealed Carry and Consequences #11
Good Evenin Guys,
Some very good points brought up in this thread ! I have been a gun advocate my entire adult life, but yet I dont own one pistol. If I did own a pistol I would use it on the pistol range and for my own enjoyment and dont believe I would ever carry a concealed weapon. Im certainly not knocking anyone that feels they need to pack, I just dont think I would feel comfortable doing so myself. I have somehow managed to get through a good part of my entire life without an incident that I felt that I needed that type of protection. I sincerly feel that has to do with the places that I travel and establishments that I would frequent or places that I would do business!
I have often felt that carrying a weapon could get me into a situation that I really dont want to be in. Some once said to me, dont carry a weapon unless you feel your capable of using it ! That statement has stuck with me for a very long time, and honestly I feel its served me well for many years.

Once again, I have no problem with others carrying, since I believe that is an individual decision. Just not right for me ! ;)

To hear people talking so freely of shooting, even so far as killing another person, even in self defense is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. I graduated highschool in 1965. I went in the Army for 3 years. 3 guesses where I went then. I was an artillery spotter. I called in strikes on positions where I knew people were being hit.

Knowing you tooks someones life is a monumental weight to carry regardless of the reason why. That would be the most serious consequense, bar none. You can talk about doing it, you can speculate on the after effects. Once it actually happens you see the issue from a completely different point of view. That's not to say you wouldn't do the same thing again in the same situation. You just never view life quite the same.

Life becomes far more precious.

Where in the constitution does it guarantee the right to carry a concealed weapon?

From the US Constitution, Bill of Rights:

Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

From Webster's online dictionary:

1
: to carry or possess arms

So MikePA, What does "bear" mean to you? If your point is "concealed" then fine, I'll carry or bear it openly.

Someone once said, " Better to be tried by 12 than buried by 6" . I understand that there would be remorse if I ever shot someone. Heck, I once punched a bully in the stomach and felt bad about it afterwards, but all it takes is one time to be put in a bad situation, as remote as that maybe. I understand the number 1 rule in carrying a firearm, and I have soul searched it many times, "If you draw you weapon, make sure you are ready to use it." I will take the remorse for my family and friends life any day.

If anyone read my posts on the other thread (about buying the .45), I posted that if someone was breaking into my home, I would not want to kill them. I meant that. I don't want to shoot anyone! I would hope they would see the laser sweeping across the wall, window or whatever, coming their way and they would run!

I, like many of you, was in the Military. Aside from being a Flight Engineer, I did a tour of duty as an Auxillary Security Force (ASF) member aboard a southern Naval Air Station. I had to go through the Military Police Academy (Auxillary), which was taught by the Marine Cadre out of Kings Bay, GA. I qualified with the M16, M60 and M9 (Beretta 92f). It was really educational and those guys are great.

Shooting paper silhouettes is different from shooting at someone. I hope I'm not ever in the situation, but if I am, I hope I am as strong as the men who went before me were.

As far as CCW's are concerned, I have one from FL and one from AL. Truth is, I haven't EVER carried (on my person) a firearm when out in public! I have CCW's because if I WANTED to, I could! Plus, in Alabama, you HAVE to have a CCW to have a pistol in your vehicle, whereas in Florida, SS 792 (I think this is the correct statute) allows you to, WITHOUT a CCW.

Another reason for the CCW in Florida, when I go into a gunshop to buy a pistol, I don't want to have to wait 3-5 days for it. I can walk in, walk out with my purchase.

It's all about choices.

I hope the day never comes when I have to use a weapon on someone, but in case I do, I hope my "double-tap" to the chest is accurate and I hope I won't hesitate.

There's a lot of truth in this quote:

"The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war."

- General Douglas MacArthur, 1880 - 1964

I have killed hundreds of people... not up close... I supported A-6E crews... etc... Loaded bombs... wrote evaluations on sailers I hardly new... that kept the A-6E aircraft crews ready... fueled, daily and turnarounded on schedule and on time. I sleep at night!

Thanks, but I know the 2nd amendment and I know the definition of bear. No need to quote them.

If you read my response to LMTC, you'll know what my point is.

You should be clearer about exactly what the politicians in MD are preventing you from doing.

For a split second I got a little excited and thought we might of crossed paths, until I realized I mis read your statement. I first thought you were born in 1965, not graduating!:)

Let me guess, started out in southwest Oklahoma as a 13 foxtrot?

I carry religiously, drawn it a couple of times but never had to use it.
Odds of ever needing it are rare, but I can't think of anything worse than sitting in a Luby's eating with your family when some nut cuts loose and murders them before your eyes. Or attending class when some nut cuts loose. I probably have a better chance of winning the lotto than ever needing to use a gun, but I would die a thousand deaths if a situation arose and I lost a loved one because I was helpless to protect them.
