Ballast concrete ballast box.

Hi fellas,
I built a ballast box today for about $60. Made a frame out of 2x2x1/4 angle then formed it with 1/2" plywood and filled with 9
bags of concrete mix. I'm anxious to try it out in a day or two.
According to my owners manual a 4110 with loaded r4s needs
725# min. If I figured right this unit should weigh in at close to
800. I'm not sure how much JD gets for theirs but I'll bet I saved
a bunch of money.

The retail on the Deere ballast box is $188.
Did you buy your 4110 - FEL from a dealer ?
If you did, you might want to talk to them about the ballast box and if it was included in the price. I would think that they may have a potential liability issue if they didn't include a ballast box or at the vey least explain to you about proper ballast and why it is important.

A few months back, I was talking to a friend of mine who bought a 2210 - FEL. He asked me about a ballast box and I was suprised that the dealer didn't automatically include it in the package. I know they did when I bought my 2210. I told him that I thought they should have included it.

Anyway, he goes to the dealer and asks them about the price of a new ballast box. They tell him around $200 and he says "forget it, I'll go build something myself". Well, wouldn't you know, the dealer quickly said "Oh, why don't you just take this ballast box, it's on us."

Post some picture if you can. I'm curious to see how it came out.

The dealer ask me if I wanted a ballast box when he priced out the tractor but I already had this project in mind. I wanted to do it quickly so there wouldn't be any issue with the waranty should something go wrong. As for pictures I'm not much of a photographer.

The loaders can be configured with and without a ballast box. If you are ordering, already own, or are going to provide ballast on your own, they don't have to sell you the ballast box. I doubt they make anything on it (Deere generally does not profit from safety items by choice) The dealer that provided one after the fact at no charge is both generous and looking out for his own liability.
