Tractor
Massey Ferguson 135
Hi everyone.
I'm looking at purchasing a new CUT and would like some info from anyone that has used one. My old tractor a MF 135 is losing power and can't get the jobs done I need it to do anymore, and 2wd has been somewhat of an issue with implements.

First, has anyone owned a newer Bobcat 2035 or 2040? I will be needing to pull a 5' box blade on gravel driveway, and a 6' disc for food plots. The price is right on these machines, just curious if they can handle a 6' disc.

Second, is there really that much of a difference when looking at the HP. the total difference is 4.7hp. Can the 2035 still pull 6' disc?

Lastly, any feedback from owners on these tractors would be helpful. I know its a rebranded Kioti, just curious if Bobcat owners have had good service with their dealers. No kioti around me.

Thanks,
J

I had a 27 hp Bobcat. It pulled a 5 foot box blade fine. I don't think that you will run out of power before you run out of traction. I think 35 is enough, but nobody ever ever says ' I wish I gotten the LESS powerful tractor".

It's based on availabilty right now. The 2040 not available till July, the 2035 is available now. I've got a friend that will loan me his tractor to get jobs done, but having to ask each time I need one makes me feel like a PITA.

I just put a deposit on a CT2040 and the dealer told me that either tractor was the same 30-45 day lead time. Demand is pretty high and all their local stock is sold out for both tractors. They are essentially the same exact tractor and engine, I'd image just a different tune on the engine for the hp bump on the 2040s. My thought process was that $500 was minimal to get the added hp even though the pto isn't that much more.

I moved a lot of packed dirt with a 5' box blade on my 29 hp JD 790, gravel is easier to move. Limiting factor was always weight, not power, I suspect the same applies to the disc. I don't think the extra 5 hp is going to make any difference in this application.

After writing this I became curious about the torque differences between the (KIOTI) CK1035 and the CK1040. I was surprised to find very little difference, 85 lb/ft vs 87 lb/ft. Here's where I found the data.

I think the real difference is the PTO horsepower and iirc that's about 3 horsepower with the HST tractors.

I did go with foam filled tires vs. rim guard on mine for maximum rear ballast. I believe it adds roughly 660 pounds total to the rear.

Did you add any remotes or thumb control for a grapple? When I ask the sales guy he can never give me a price, just says he’ll have to look into it. Curious if I add a rear remote and grapple control on the joystick what the out the door price will end up being.
Thanks

The sales person not having an answer to that question is a bit concerning. I wonder how much they really know about tractors.....

My other thread on 2035/40 pricing

Take a look at the thread I posted a couple of weeks ago. I showed the starting and finish invoices for my tractor. I added rear remotes and third function for a grapple about $850 each installed.

They are probably learning. I’m doubtful Bobcat dealers hired experienced tractor salesmen when they reintroduced a tractor line.

Also, if you use the build tool on the Bobcat website you can see the rear remote under the options. They don't list the third function kit, but that part number is on my invoice so you can provide it to the dealer. To Jchonline's point you shouldn't have to provide that to your dealer. I know the tractor business has somewhat exploded on Bobcat since last year so it might just be part of the growing pains. What I've found is that Bobcat offers just about any option you might want, but not all the implements. I'm going to order an EA grapple, but the 12 week lead time isn't exactly thrilling. The though of waiting til July for a grapple just doesn't work for me right now and my plans.

I just got my 2040 last week. I asked them to match the price of the 2035 and they did! I couldn't justify the $500 difference for 5hp, that's 100+hp in tuning on my dmax. So far I've been very pleased both with the tractor and the dealer.

My Dealer has been very helpful. He is on the road a lot so I talk to him on the phone more than anything, but during COVID I guess that would have been the same anyway. I work away at sea and my tractor arrived at the dealer a month before I'm getting home. He had it delivered to a tire shop of my choice to get the tires filled (they don't do it), he noticed the tractor arrived without rear remotes and had that rectified before delivery, he allowed me to have other brand attachments I ordered delivered to him so he can bring the whole order out (didn't want my wife to have to deal with a 800lb wood chipper at the end of the drive way). Providing free delivery about 20 minutes from the shop.

While I was still shopping in January he left me alone to move a snow pile with the FEL from once spot in the parking lot to another.

I got a call back today from the local Bobcat dealer following up my lead. I said "the one from a month ago"? He said, "No, I just got it today." Considering I am about to make payment #1 on the red machine, I would say their lead gen and lead management is bad. To make it worse, I spoke to 2 people there about 5 weeks ago and traded several emails about what they didn't have in stock. As a former professional sales trainer, that's a big flag. I would add into the mix how well the dealership is on top of communications during the search process.

Talking to my sales guy when I purchased mine, he apologized for not having several answers immediately. He said that due to COVID, Bobcat released a series of internal videos about the details of the tractor. But many people only watched them once or didn’t watch at all so their knowledge was low. I think they’ll be up to par very soon given the circumstances.

That said I couldn’t be happier with my tractor or the dealership. I would make the same purchase again if given the opportunity.
