Well,here is the story.
A gentleman is selling his collection of tractors at auction and out of these twentyfive tractors he is selling there are two 8N's.
All of his collection is in beautiful condition and has been in his "museum" for many years along with many other farm related items.
#1 A 1952 model. This tractor was restored 15 years ago and has only been used 10 hours since than. It has a Sherman transmission. Excellent paint, tires, runs smooth, etc.
This one I have a pretty good idea of how high I will bid but I wondered what you guys thought? I know it is hard since you have not seen the machine.
#2 A 1951 model. Here is the one that really has me stumped. It is as nice as #1 but with the addition of a MINT one arm loader. Not a dent, scratch, anything on this loader or bucket. I have the same idea as far as the tractor goes but with the addition of the attached loader it really throws me off.
Again, these are beautiful machines meant more for parade/display (which is what I am in the market for).
Like I say, number one isn"t to hard but I have no idea about the second one.
Thoughts on both please.
Thanks!

Prices on old tractors aren't that high anymore because of the economy and will be relative to your area. Without seeing a photo or the tractor in person it's hard to say. One man's opinon of a "restored" tractor may not be the same as others. It all depends what you what to spend and are willing to pay. If you are planning to take it to show then think about it. You will see a bunch of 8n's at shows but how many have you seen with one arm loaders on them? The brackets for the 8n are very hard to find and that's why I would bid the one with the loader. Take into consider that the tires maybe loaded for your transportation needs. Of course I, like soundguy, am partial to the one arm loaders and will be taking my 950 to our club show in a couple of week. This is not a restored tractor but my pulling, working around the farm tractor.
Good luck on your bidding.

What is the real world value of an excellent shape one arm loader? I know it is the old "it's worth what someone is willing to pay" but what is a realistic value of one of these?
Thanks for everyones thoughts and comments, they are very appreciated.

I paid $150 for the one my 950 but it did not come with any mounting brackets. Realisticly one arm in very good condition complete, IMO, in my area, $400/$500. But you won't find brackets to mount them to an 8n, And I have been looking for years. So I would say that one on an 8n would go for considerable more. NAA and fordson brackets are also hard to find, The 8n brackets are almost impossible, Row crop and utility are a little easier.

generally.. the 1-arm laoders themselves are cheap. like 75-150$ for the trip bucket style.

however. the bracket sets are what you pay for. the common bracket set is for an ag chassis 55-64 machine and those 3 brackets can cost 100-150 bucks.

more rare brackets are the rowcrops front hanger, and the 3 cyl brackets, and the 3 cyl LCG brackets.

then you get to more rare.. like the NAA brackets. I've seen 3 of those in my life and bought one of them.

then you get to ultra rare... fordson dexta and ford 8n brackets. I've never seen a dexta bracket set outside a manual.. and have only seen a ford 8n bracket set 3 times on someone else's machine. the 8n bracket set is RARE

your call on what to do. the one with the sherman is nice as wellas the one with t he rare loader brackets.

what are your intended uses?

Thank you to everyone who has commented so far in my thread.
Soundguy,my intended use for this is purly a toy to use in an occasional show or run up and down the street once or twice a year. To put it honestly,a dust collector. lol
I grew up with my Dad having an 8N and my grandpa having a 9N so I am partial to the Fords.
I will report back after the auction with sold prices and pictures of the machines if we remember the camera.

I had seen them on the auction site. He does have an interesting collection of things. I was impressed with his brab wire collection. Might be some high spenders there. Hopefully for your sake they're not interested in those old 8n's. Let us know how things go and if the bidding gets too steep I've found it's best to keep my hands in my pockets or I winded up paying too much.
good luck,
Kirk
