Converting J.D. 70 loader to Quick Attach?

That is exactly how my bucket attaches on my 4110 JD. You can even buy the hooks and pins from JD Parts to save the trouble of making them, I bought them for my forklift that I just finished. Will have pics soon...

Here is some pics of the forklift attachment I built. the frame is made from 3/8 plate and 1/4 inch channel. the hooks are made from 1x3x1/4 inch flat bar. The forks are made from 2x4x1/4 inch tubing. The fist set of forks I made were from 2x4 channel and they were not very strong. The 2x4 tubing is alot stronger. It will hold anything the tractor can pick up. If you look close, you can see I have added some pieces to attach a boom pole to the frame of the forklift attachment. I built a 10 foot boom pole to use when I set the I built trusses for my 40 x 60 shop. The walls are 14 feet high and 20 feet at the peak. It was no problem to set the trusses with this setup. I will post a few pics I took back in the spring befroe I was finished with my shop. Here is the first pic of the forklift attachment.

Thanks mucho for the additional photos. You've given us some great ideas for the winter. Too bad I don't know how to weld... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif However I've got a welding shop nearby that is reasonable and does good work as long as I can give them a picture or a drawing. BTW - Your trusty companion looks like a good protector as well!

I don't know if there is anyone else that has a QA like my MF one or not, but it just uses the same pins that came on the bucket to latch to. You just unpin the bucket, pin the adapter on the loader and then it hooks to the bucket allot like this custom one. The main difference is that you don't have to do any cutting on the bucket and you still latch on the pins instead of welding on the bucket. Clear as mud.

A quick attach like you described is easier to install but moves the bucket out further which reduces the breakout force and lift capacity. The QA method he used doesn't reduce breakout or lifting capacity. This is very important if you have a smaller tractor that already has a limited lifting capacity.

After checking out several different quick attach systems which
would have ran me between $875.00 to $1200.00. Plus it would
have added over 100 lbs and the less expensive Q.A. would
have required welding...

And I don't have the creative talent nor welding skills BSims has.
That is one slick manufacturing job he did...

I decided to go with the John Deere Quick Attach adapter off the
400 series loader. The entire set-up, tractor side an attachment
side, set me back about $240.00. This does not include any welding
that will be necessary..

I found a couple of minor problems...

The pin sizes are different...
pin size on 400 is 1 inch.
pin size on 70 is 3/4 inch

The width of the arms are different...
width on 400 series 3 1/2 inches
width on 70 is 2 inches

Also the overall width between arms is different.
400 series is 42 inches.
70 series is 41 inches.

I think I found the solution, bushings that will reduce the pin size
and also being 2 inches long will take care of the difference in width.
Once bushing are set in there proper place, they can be welded ...

Not positive this will work but I'm hopeful...

Gunfighter, Thanks for the compliment. Have you checked to see what a local welding shop or machine shop would charge to build the parts for you. I know we are a long way apart but I feel like those parts around here could be fabbed for less than what you paid for yours and they would be made to fit. Heck, I would build you a set cheaper than $240. There can't be much over $50 worth of material in those things. Anyway, I would be concerned about having to use longer pins. Those being an inch and a half wider than yours means you will need longer pins. Longer pins might bend when really stressed even with the bushings welded in place. It will work I'm sure, but could be a headache if one or both pins were to bend or break.
