?? Converting PTO attachments to hydraulic

/ ?? Converting PTO attachments to hydraulic #22
Well, this is what I ended up buying. Haven't brought it home yet, it's still at work. The CTL should be in at the end of the week. So as soon as it's here, I'll get this hooked up. Should be 'da bomb!!

Thanks again Todd 727

One thing I found out the hard way: be careful about catching the implement in a side to side motion. Since the three point arms aren't free to sway in the slightest amount, you can bend them. I hit a tree root that I couldn't see and folded the arms over about 20 degrees. I was able to take them off and straighten them out with a sledge hammer, but an ounce of prevention is worth 25lbs of cure. I thought about reinforcing them, but then decided something even harder to repair might incur the damage in those situations.

Todd727,

Thanks for the heads up.... Can't say I would have considered that, but it makes sense. Still haven't used it yet, but should get to it in a couple of weeks. Been busy with other projects, but I have some time off coming up, and plan to hook up the chipper to it.

Take care.

I'm thinking about converting a couple of PTO driven attachments to hydraulic drive, if possible. I need all the help I can get, since I've never done anything like this.

I have a Jinma chipper, and a Wallenstein log winch I'd like to convert.
First question is: The hydraulic system on the machine uses engine oil, not hydraulic fluid, is that an issue with hyd motors?
If not, how do I go about sizing the motor, since I have no info on what the implements require. I'm presently using them on my JD 110TLB. I'd like to use them on a CTL that specs hydraulic flow at 19GPM @3450 psi.

Thanks in advance,

Check with Univ of KY Ag department. 20 years ago I saw some in shop testing they were doing with hay balers, etc test for a safer drive method than the PTO set up. I think they had some kind of grant for the project so the rearch and results must be on line somewhere. It may have been 1993 or 1994 and I expect it was 1994. It was interesting to watch and here them talk about the project.
