Cool Or Creepy Things Found In The Bush Or On Your Property

I remember lots of old cars, trucks, and farm equipment laying in woods or along field edges when I was a kid in the late 60's/early 70's. They appeared to be 20s - 40's cars and trucks. No interiors. But we'd sit on seat springs and pretend to be driving. Lots of old belt powered threshing equipment and horse drawn implements. Wish I'd have grabbed some of the steel seats back then. And lots of cone-top beer cans that we shot up with BB guns. They'd be worth some money had we saved them. Also, a lot of metal/porcelain advertising signs, and metal barrels with logos on them.

Used to be an old car in the woods on our farm. Then dad put his old truck in the woods. Several years back when steel prices were high, someone paid him for the scrap.

I don’t understand people letting junk cars sit until the tire rot when someone will come drag it away *and* give you some cash.

If I go out where the original homesteader had his buildings - WoW!!! Nail & spikes of all sizes, small metal cans, nuts & bolts, old dry cell batteries, bits and chunks of metal - you name it. It would be a never ending task to find one specific item if lost over there.
Pretty much any house of a certain age here in New England has its own private dump on the property. Maybe someone buried it, other times it's just disappeared under rotted leaves but most of 'em have it. Both my previous and current houses do.
Never found anything valuable...lots of rusty metal, broken glass, rotted shoes, etc. I did find an early-50s Chevy grille ornament/logo a couple years ago while excavating to rebuild a stone wall, closest thing to anything cool I ever came across.

I don't get it either but it happened a lot, even into the 70s. Maybe attitudes held over from the depression that there might be something on it that might come in handy someday.

A lot of people, including myself, get the thought that "I'll fix that up some day." We don't.
It rots.
It goes to the scrapper eventually, but rarely gets fixed up.

The old car on our property was in the woods in the 60s, so not sure what year it was. At least from 40s, as dad bought the farm in late 40s

Kind of cool. Almost every year I see a small metallic green snake out on my lawn. It's about a foot long, metallic OD green scales. Finally check on it. It's a Rubber Boa. This is definitely larger than the one I see in my yard. They are not poisonous and move very slowly.

Very neat @oosik! Never heard of a snake like that before.

Neither had I - JDZ735M. The only Boa I'd ever heard of was a Boa constrictor. And the really slow part - I thought is was some sort of act. This photo does not show - but the tail is blunt, like a cigar. This little fellow eats mice, voles and shrews.

Considered to be one of the most friendly snakes. I know the naturalist at Turnbull Nat Wildlife Refuge was very excited when I called them. She immediately identified the snake after I gave them a description. They wanted me to get a picture. Like I carry my camera everywhere with me. Next time - I'll get a picture.

Carrying a camera is a sure-fire way to never see anything interesting.
Leaving it at home is a sure-fire way to see something unique which you will never see again.
