statistics don't bear that out. at least not where I live. CCW holders are among the most law abiding section of the population. last time i looked, there were more police accidental self inflicted gunshot wounds per capita than ccw holders

You're preaching to the choir. :D Everything I've read in this thread indicates that posters understand the need to train and use discipline in case the need for self defense ever arises. Contrast that with discussions I've had with people who simply believe that keeping a weapon in the bedside drawer is adequate, with no plan or practice.

The need for self defense simply doesn't exist up here (yet). although I am trying to get into the habit of locking my doors if I leave for more than a few hours.

In this state at least CCW holders are required to be law abiding, or they won't get a permit. They also are forbidden from carrying weapons into certain places like bars.

even here in fl you have to keep your nose pretty clean to get or keep a ccw. just about anything you can get arrested for can potentially deny a permit..

I'm kind of a snob when it comes to guns. Ruger, S&W, Remington, and of course Colt. Plus a few other old USA manufacturers. Yesterday I was out on a job and one of the guys unloaded his SS Judge for me to check out. It made me take the blinders off... what a nice gun. 45/410 revolver with laser sights in the grip and a nice feel to it. He said it kicks like a mule with 3inch magnums but I'll bet it gets the job done.
