Core aerator

I have been all over the web trying to locate a good core aerator for a three point hitch to use with my bx22 or x-575.
Does anyone know of a brand they would recommend?

Yup. Perfect size. Best coring pattern. Biggest plugs. Best quality, and most versatile for weight (water ballast range from 250# to about 600#). Good company to work with. I have the TM42 (42" working width) which I have nothing but praise for. They do make a big 60" unit, too. I bought it when I had my JD445 and use it with my JD2210. It will set you back around a thousand clams plus shipping for the 3-PH model. $1,600 for the tow-behind. You can convert the 3-PH model to a tow-behind later if needed. They sell and ship direct. For a BX 22 an AgriFab $160.00 core aerator will do the job for you. A few blocks will provide the needed downforce.

Save your money for something else.

The only problem I had, not really a big problem, I made a dolly to store the aerator on. The dolly has 3 inch wheels on 2x4’s on the flat. The dolly is a little too high for the 3pt to connect to. I have to take 2 blocks off the aerator and back the BX over the blocks to raise the tractor off the ground. If I do this I can get the aerator on with no problem, and then slide the dolly out. Getting it off I just reverse the process.

I find putting the tractor in low and pulling the aerator works best. If you go too fast, when you hit a rock it bounces the blocks off the aerator. Besides low gear gives you more seat time! I do a cross pattern, go one way and then the other. I aerator the lawn in the fall and spring. I just leave the cores on the lawn, in a few days they fall apart and into the grass and you can not see them. It pulls nice 3 inch long cores. One thing to check is if you have cable TV make sure you know where it is, because if not, the aerator will find it! Yep I found mine the hard way. I had the cable company come out and bury it deeper when they came to repair the one I hit.

I am pleased with the unit. I purchased the unit local from a Kioti dealer. Ken Sweet was a little more $$ with shipping. I thought I would support the local economy. Well it took 6 weeks to get the unit, dealer told me 1 week, and he wanted to charge me for the pins to attach the unit to the tractor. If I has to do it again, I would purchase it from Ken and get it in a few days like when I got my rototiller from him.

I have the First Choice model and have owned it for 3 seasons. Hooks up and pulls readily on my BX22, and does everything I ask of it for $ 675.00 Great plug depth and ejection and tough tines that don't bend on rock. Ballast with (10) solid concrete blocks available at Lowe's, etc. and you're in business. I do 2 acres of lawn, and can't see spending more for a higher end model.

Curved tines are claimed to be better and this is probably true. But, what is patented shatter tine? Any image you can show?

Most all of the core tines come from the same factory in Italy.
