'tis the season for corn on the cob,,,
I ain't saying the wife is impatient,, but, she has the picnic table set,, waiting for the corn to grow,,

Just kidding,, we read about the method of heating corn in the oven,, rather than hot water.

The oven method is perfect!!
Pull the ears off the stalk, leave the husks on.
Preheat the oven to 355 degrees,, throw in a dozen ears for 17 minutes.

THEN,, I cut off the top and bottom with a serrated bread knife.

The heat makes the silks fall right off as you remove the husks.
no muscles needed,, since the bottom is cut, the husks literally fall off.

There is no need to remove the husks until you eat it,, the corn is perfectly fresh.

(NOTE: if you are civilized,, and eat indoors,,
yea, you can remove the husks while the corn is in the kitchen)


So, the advantages to us are:
No boiling water, the house stays cooler,,,
FAR less labor,,
this is the freshest corn prep method we have EVER tried,,,

I like to put it in the microwave, 4 minutes per ear, then cut the stalk end off enough for the corn to fall out, hold the tip end and the corn will fall out, clean no silks.

Run some water in the open end of the complete corn cob with husk. Then heat, micro wave, barbecue, oven ??

The article said to do it for 350 for 15 minutes,,
that was not hot enough for us,
we went up to 355,, that got close,,
the third batch, we upped the time to 17 minutes,,, perfect.
The oven temp is accurate,, we check it frequently.

If you did more than a dozen ears,, I would bet the time would have to go up some to heat all the corn.

The first time we did it, we only did 6 ears,, the other two times,, we did 12 ears.

One time,, we saw a worm,, it did not make it through the oven cycle.

Insects are one of the reasons I like to cut the top off.
usually,, the insect is only in the top 1/2" of the corn.

We do 'em on the grill. Soak in cool water first, turn frequently. Cut the butt, give a squeeze and enjoy.
I like it best when some of the kernels brown a bit.
