The operator's manual for my new L3400DT shows the lug nut torques as 160 ft-lbs for the front and 100 ft-lbs for the rear. Is this an error? The front nuts are smaller than the rear; why would they have higher settings?

I'd say that's a typo all right - according to my manual, the wheel nut torque for all Grand L 30's is 100 front, 160 rear. The 3400 is probably the same.
