Hi Guys. I'm with Tarheel Tractor and I haven't been on the boards in a while, but I thought I'd let you know what was going on with Corriher.
For a while Corriher and Tarheel were the only ones doing pricing on eBay and on our websites, and it was causing a lot of grief for other dealers (for reasons already mentioned in this thread)-especially in the northeast. Finally enough pressure was put on New Holland that they had to create a situation where if we stayed on the internet with obvious discount pricing then we were going to lose a lot of money in terms of discounts, etc. Our dealership thought it was in our best interest to comply and just try to be lower key about servicing our customers out of state. Corriher, for lack of a better term, "challenged" New Holland and kept everything the same. Although it took a while, this gave Corriher a bit of a black eye with New Holland and tensions between the two continued to rise. Mr. Corriher began encouraging his son to sell the dealership, which is why you saw it up for sale. We spoke with them about a buyout since we are only 30 minutes up the road from them, but we were very far apart on the terms. Finally with no buyers and a lot of pressure from New Holland, Corriher turned in their letter of resignation. New Holland then approached us about taking over that territory, which we will be doing in roughly four to six weeks. We are the ones that have been down there loading everything up to take to the new store.
If we can help you guys with anything please let us know. We had quotes set up to auto-respond on our website (Tarheel Tractor - Authorized New Holland, Toro & Yanmar Dealer) so people could get a price quickly, but we found that a large number of our quotes were being filtered by customer's spam filters. If you have any suggestions about how we can get you our "real" pricing quickly online, we are open for suggestions. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
