Corrosion

Even the paint is nowhere near automobile quality. My mower deck has a fair amount of rust on the surfaces that never contact grass. Deere Z425.

Dwight, look at the bright side.... most of it is shiney. Buyers remorse may be corroding from the inside. Enjoy !!!!!

Thanks Agent Blue! I am enjoying not only the tractor... but the fact that I don't have buyer's remorse from overspending on an item! Please consider moving to the Deere and Kubota threads and whenever someone mentions an issue they are exeriencing tell them they should have bought a different tractor.
Again look more closely at the questions being asked. I did not ask if I bought the right tractor as my research and experience confirms I did. I asked for help on a situation. I got very informative responses about the coatings and how they react to protect the metal. I also got informative responses about how to lengthen the life of the fittings...all great responses that addressed the point of the thread.
...and then I got yours...misinformed, misdirected and, dare I say..yep I'll say it, moronic. Please go be negative elsewhere. This is a group of owners putting in our time to help one another..not name-brand bash.

X 2  Not too sure what Agent Blue is promoting other than everyone bought the wrong tractor regardless of brand. I would for sure prefer Korea over Chinese as some of the big 3 are doing now.

I finally looked up the coating used on the bolts today and it is yellow zinc as the replacement for cadmium and as we know zinc forms a white powder when it corrodes. It is of little value in saltwater environment with rusting beginning in as little as 40 hours. While the bolts on mine are still bright yellow mostly because it is shedded 99% of the time, I think if I really wanted to make it look new, I would clean all the grease and oil off with a good solvent and get some matching paint and paint them to match. Check everything for tightness first then paint them. I see where many folks then mark a straight line across all of their FEL bolts with a contrasting paint marker to easily see if they have backed off. This doesnt address any stretching but it for sure lets you easily see when a bolt is no longer in alignment and needs tightening.

X3:thumbsup:

Its funny the small deeres were Yanmars , the midrange deeres are built in germany ( I am loading 3 of them monday at the piers ) but our korean tractors are junk ? I am happy with my Ls and the $14,000 extra
I didnt have to spend on green paint :D

Why is it always a cheaper tractor is bad materials?
Most other countries don't pay for labor like we do in the states. That's where I would look. Some of the highest QC factory's have "cheap" labor.
Those "savings" are passed on to the consumer.

Oh and lived in Korea for a year. I've bought everything from cars to plasma tv right at factory for half of what you'd pay in states. Just didn't pay for bull. Something to think about.

This is a very good Idea. It'll keep from attracting dirt and dust. That's one of those rainy day projects. I have a few more things that have to happen before I get to spend anymore time in the garage. At least for now I know it is protected from corroding along with a bunch of my underside and rods, etc..

Kil Mine was a white coating type of thing...not as obvious. As mentioned in here earlier get some Fluid Film and hit everything from your battery terminals to anything that is more apt to have corrosion. The stuff really works great. I used it on some completely rusted shears...and I mean rusted shut. Not only did it break down the existing rust within minutes, it left a coating on it that apparently is going to last until the second coming.
Hope that helps.

That corrosion almost looks like chemical attack rather than plain weathering. Either way, if you want them to not rust, which doesnt hurt them as far as strength goes as it would take many years to rust away the bolt heads.
To really preserve them, remove them one at a time, clean all the rust off, coat threads lightly (a little bit will do) with heavy grease and reinstall. Tighten as specified for max torque per bolt size. After they are all removed and reinstalled, then solvent clean the exposed surface and paint to match the equipment. It should be good for several lifetimes then. The grease will protect the internal threads and paint will seal and protect outside surfaces.

If bolts are susceptible to loosening off, finally after the paint is dry, take a good paint marker (Nissan makes good ones in all colors) Mark a straight line across the nut and bolt with a contrasting color. Then note on weekly inspections that the line is still straight, if not then nut has loosened off.
