Obviously I cant answer for the whole board but Its acceptable to me that you use "certain words" towards him, I couldnt care less. I couldnt care less if you use "certain words" towards me.

There might be places for that, but I'm glad that civility and respect are the dominating traits here at TBN. Don't you think it makes for better conversation, than calling one another "*********" all day long?

I do appreciate the respecful manner which members here generally treat one another.
Maybe when I stated that I couldnt care less how member spoke to each other, I overstated my feelings. I think it would be more accurate to say that im not offended or upset by a persons language or the words they choose. If the majority of the members here were disrespectful of others, I would probably choose to no longer come here because I prefer a respectful environment over a disrespectful one, its just a more enjoyable and productive environment.
I guess I would like to think that even without restrictions, the people here would conduct themselves the same as they do now. Ive been a member for a few years and up until the other day, had no idea that certain words were banned. Thats a good thing. Im a little put off when rules are imposed just for the sake of having rules, when its obvious they arent needed. If the membership in a community is doing a good job of policing itself, leave it be.
This thread is the very first time I can remember any racial slurs being written on this board, most of them by me. If they offended, I appoligize. In the text of my post, I think it was obvious the words were not directed at any group of people or individual.
Anyway, I cant see how just viewing the words would be offensive. I mean we all know theyre in the dictionary, We all know that they exist and what they look like. What good are a bunch of these**** if we all know what they stand for? Now we just use these**** with a little wink and a nudge. Its almost childish.

I disagree completely. Words have meaning and context. They way they are used, when they are used and why they are used give them far more power than the ink or pixels used to display them. If all words are is ink, sound or pixels then there isn't much point to anything that is written, or spoken for that matter.

We also have to keep in mind that the internet is open to all sorts of religions, ages and nationalities. Keeping things civil is a priority for the success and reputation of a site such as this. In an international community, there really isn't any excuse for using any type of slur to describe someone.

I agree that using **** might seem childish, but I think it is more of a nod to the fact that we here are usually civil here. The more effective, and less childish appearing approach would be for the word censor to delete the whole post in which the offending word appears. I'm glad we go the "childish" route here.

In high school and before, I used bad language because everyone else did and I thought it made me sound older, tougher and wiser. I don't know how or why I thought that, but it's what everyone else did and I was very immature.

In the Marines, it was almost common language to use foul language. I became so imune to it that I didn't even realize I was doing it.

After I came home again and joined civilian life, I realized how inapropriate my language was and started to pay attention to it in others. I became embarassed by it and made a decision to not swear any more.

I find people who rely on foul language, cursing, yelling and screaming to express themselves to be imature and not very inteligent. I'm sure that there are plenty of people much smarter than I am who use bad language on a regular basis, but I won't deal with them. I truly believe that the smarter you are, the easier it is to express yourself in a civil manner.

I'm guilty of taking great pride in finding ways to insult somebody for various reasons in a manner that is both civil and polite. I guess I'm a little weird in this, but my best insults are those that the person I'm insulting doesn't even realize it.

If Mr. Richards was sincere, he would have apologized to those people the second he said what he said. He should have walked off the stage and said he was sorry to there faces in front of everyone that was there. Not run around and make sily blanket statements on TV and Radio. He's just doing damage control now and failing miserably.

Tom Cruise isn't a person I care for. His movies are terrible and he's gone way overboard on his opinions to the point of insulting others. His war with Brooke Shields is a perfect example. But he did impress me with how he apologized to her after he had his baby. For whatever reason, he went to her house without the media, just him, and he told her he was sorry face to face. Mr. Richards should do the same.

I've gone too far joking around with people and accidentally insulted them. I think everyone has at one time or another. When I realize what I've done, I apologize right away.

That's just me and my opinion,
Eddie

Im not sure we disagree as much as you think we do. I happen to agree 100% that the way the words are used and the context which they are used is what matters. Its not just the black and white or the letters or pixels that is as offensive as the way the words are used. That was kinda my point. Just the words themselves dont have much meaning until you put context to them. Thats my feeling anyway.

When I hear someone, especially someone who has the attention of the general public, spouting hatefull words and beliefs, it almost makes me ill.

There.... I said it. Was I talking about Kramer? Yes. Was he the ONLY one I was thinking about? NOT HARDLY.

Now I don't want ANYONE to take this wrong. I'm not singling out any race, religion, or national origin. What I AM talking about is all the ignorance you hear in the "modern culture" of many ethnic groups. Rap music for instance. There is more hate and prejudice in the typical rap "song" than Kramer could ever hope to convey in his rant.

And NO ONE pressures them to say they're sorry.

I don't see too many rappers on TV with Jesse Jackson, telling the world how the were wrong to preach hate and mistrust, violence and death to "white America". How is that "acceptable", yet the same sort of comments directed towards any other segment of our society is shamefully wrong?

MY point is, this sort of behavior is unacceptable across the board. And the ones crying foul are just as guilty as Kramer in many cases.

Funny, when I 1st saw the clip I thought he was joking. Makeing it a part of his shtick. I thought hummmm, he's dareing to go against the flow here, this is interesting.....
I mean I've heard alot worse blareing out of car stereos at red lights, primted on T shirts and used in convo's.
But since he's appologizing all over the place for his "outburst" it apears that he was serious. Imagine that , a comic that was serious in a comedy club. Oh well, he's stepped on his package over this and I've heard that his act wasn't funny either. Another one bites the dust...

re. useing the N word. again, I hear it in the young-uns so-called music, in their language and even in print directed to them. It appears to be one of those words that is acceptable for only a certain segment of our society to use, while being taboo for the rest. I don't know about the rest of you but to me that is unacceptable. If we truely don't want the word to be uttered, them NO ONE should use it. I myself don't use it as I consider it an inflamitory word such as other profanity and I prefer not to use them in normal conversation but,,,, I have uttered profanity and yes the N word in the past and can't promise that I won't in the future. I do know that there is a price to pay when I use such language and being a grown accountable adult I expect that I'll have to pay when I do. But, I do feel that I have the right to use them as long as others do.....

Whats his name (I'll call him Cramer) should have appologized then and put it behind him, perhaps giving the offended their money back. Unfortunately he continued to play and now he's got to pay. Cutting edge is one thing, offending his paying customers is just bad business and judgment..

Of course it's JMHO
