Curious on what the going cost for the 50hr service on my new Kubota will be at the Dealer here in Greensboro? I may have them do it this one time. They want $350 to just ballast the rear tires so I shudder to ask what he may want for the 50 hour service. Replacing the Hydraulics, engine oil and front axle oil doesn't look too tough to do. It's just time and work and $ for oils.

I'd say just do the service yourself and save the money. You'll also learn a bit about your tractor and have satisfaction it was done right.

I agree and all that needs to be replaced is the engine oil and oil filter and one hyd filter. Check your owners manual. Easy, easy job.

Some of the videos on YouTube show changing out hyd fluid at 50 hrs, but that is incorrect -- you just need to change the filter(s). So be sure to review what the owners manual calls for, and don't make it harder than it needs to be. Swapping filters is easy. Changing out the fluid, properly, gets more involved since there multiple drain points and it's a good amount of fluid ($$).

One of the videos I saw, the guy went through a tremendous amount of trouble to do something unnecessary in changing the fluid at 50 hrs, and he didn't even do it right (missed some of the multiple drain plugs so the math didn't work out). So like anything on the internet, be careful what you believe.

The dealer is going to charge you at least $100 per hour for labor plus shop supplies is always put in to about 5%? of the cost (usually shop supplies is a fixed fee based on some % of total cost) to cover cost of clean up and oil disposal fees.
Then you have the transportation cost to get the tractor to the dealer. You can easily triple or more the cost of oil and filters rather than do it yourself. Even if you have to buy the used oil container and tools to remove the filter and any drain plugs, it will be much less to do it yourself.

Engine oil change is a 15 minute job at most, at least after you get the oil filter off that has been installed at the factory by a 1000 pound gorilla. Be sure to have a good set of filter pliers to get it off. Look at the drain plug or plugs (many 4 wheel drive units will have 2, one on each side of the front drive shaft). My LS required a hex wrench of about 18mm IIRC, in any case much larger than anything I had so I had to find something to fit it before completing the oil change. The oil filter was a real beatch to get off also and I almost destroyed my filter wrench getting it off. Most folks complain about the same problem with super tight filters so be aware of that.

When changing the HST filter, remove the fill cap and insert a shop vacuum hose in the hole to put a vacuum on the reservoir, then you should loose much oil during the swap of filters. IF you don't do this, oil is going to be pouring out of the reservoir until you get the new filter installed.

Still even with all the potential issues, it is a rewarding experience and insightful gains into your tractors workings to do the service yourself.

You should check the front axle oil level as many have found it to be low after running it for a while.

Interesting how some tractors need that shop vac trick. I did the 50 hour service on my B2650HSDC without the shop vac....lost about a 1/4 cup of transmission fluid plus what was in the filter...Just left the dip stick in.

Recently did my B2620 and if I remember correctly there are 2 hyd filters and only one gets changed at the 50 hours and it is not below the standing level of the fluid so only fluid lost is from inside the filter. I think that's right.

I just parked sideways on a hill with the filter "uphill". Didn't lose more than a few drops of fluid.

Me to but I just push it on over and makes it easier, then pull it back to it's wheels with my pick up truck.

Thanks Everyone. Looking at the Maintenance chart in the manual, I was mistaken on changing the Hydraulic & front axle fluid at 50. That is listed at 400 hrs. In the video I posted earlier, he changed both at 50 so I assumed it was the case for my tractor. No so. Someone mentioned that earlier. Thanks!
Anyway here's the list for 50 hours on the B2650 HSD:

1) Engine Oil (replace)
2) Engine Oil Filter (replace)
3) Transmission Oil Filters (replace)
4) Engine Start System (Check only)
5) Wheel Bolt Torque (Check)
6) Grease (every 10 hrs)

This is a piece of cake.

Yep, but about a $500 piece of cake for dealer service.
