   / Cost of Propane #52
Farm Bureau members offered a guaranteed rate of $1.23 per gallon for any amount over 600 gallons per year and $1.43 per gallon for any amount between 200 and 600 gallons per year. Prices guaranteed to April 2005.

Thats what I'm locked in at.

Just paid $1.78 per gallon for 150 gallons here in Northern California. No price agreement--we're a residential only use. Given the other prices posted here, that isn't bad. Come to think of it, that's great given we're here in California the land of idiot rules and taxes.

I also raise chickens and will use my fair share of propane in fact about 14,000 gallons. For the past couple of years I have been using a local company that will lock in the prices. This year they did a month by month lock contract. Then they averaged the price based on expected usage and came up with an average cost of $1.07 which is where we are locked in this year. It is really hard to make any money when propane is over $1. I envy Cowboy doc’s price of $.79. A couple of years ago we locked at $.75, last year was $.93. I don’t like this trend. Our chicken processor wanders why they are losing farms and no one will expand their farms. Costs go up and pay doesn’t for us farmers at least.

I certainly feel sorry for the folks in Maine. Those prices are unbelievable. It should be cheaper to get a home delivery than a gas station fill up. Some things wrong.
