Could a Aussie tell us how your Government confiscated your guns?

You're not far off my friend. Joburg was one of the wealthiest cities in the world not too long ago. Now the business district is abandoned to the gangs. It is very surreal to see this city with modern high rises and infrastructure sitting empty. Detroit comes to mind.

No doubt there may be some similarities, but I don't believe it is as a whole. As a result of your post I did some quick research on South Africa and violence in South Africa; very interesting. No doubt it is a mess over there and there appears to be a lot of causes, labor unrest and strikes being one.

The sites I saw referenced up to a two year wait for a gun license and there is a lot of debate over gun laws in effect and those proposed. I also noticed only 6% of the population owned firearms. As is often the case, it is really hard to make a comparison between countries on many issues.

Overall, I did learn just a little and that's always a good thing, thanks.

The number of guns stolen per year has declined, from 221,322 reported in 1993 to 138,035 in 2001, the report says." SO who is lying..???

What does it matter who's 'lying'. Even the smallest of those numbers are rediculous.

Dude! they get their stats from the FBI and the ATF! They are directly cited as the source of the data. good grief.

Listen up Guys,
Your arguing about our 2nd Amendment in our country. All others who do not live here should not be telling us who live here, what and how or we should be owning as far as rifles and sidearms go. They don't have a dog in the fight as they lost that where they live period. Question remains , "what are we going to do about it"? Everyone knows or should know that if guns are banded in America the elite, rich , the famous, and of course our politicians will still be guarded by fully armed police or guards. Well the rest of us can 911 and wait.There son & daughters who attend Sidwell School types are always going to be safe and fully armed guards will protect their children.Again the question is what do we do about the confiscation of our firearms? We can't say write your reps because that's a lost cause, although I have. It's a feeding frenzy out there and the food is America's guns.
