It was discontinued because sales were low. They're still trying to figure out why they sold so few.
That pricing, and the fact they no longer have them reminds me of a true story that went the exact opposite - low price, not high. I worked in an auto dealer parts department in my younger days. Fellow walked in and asked, "How much is a water pump for a Volvo?" The parts manager replied, "$32.95". "That's robbery!" cried the customer. "JC Whitney sells them for $18!"
"Then buy it from JC Whitney," replied the manager.
"They're out of them," said the customer.
"Heck, that's no deal, then," said the manager, "when I'm out of them, I sell them for 10 bucks!"
