To me how the pto clutch on the td80d works. From what I can see this clutch actually has 2 roller bearings unlike the older style 2 stage clutches. The lever on the left side of the seat pushes down to engage the pto. Am I correct in assuming that with the pto off the bearing is in contact with the fingers to keep the disc disengaged? Or am I missing something.

I actually had already seen that. I'm not having any trouble with mine. I just got to digging into drawings and if my suspicion is correct there is constant pressure on the release bearing when the pto is off. Seems like a poor design to me. I can't find anything in my owners manual to indicate a gear that can be disengaged so the pto lever could ride in the on position without the pto actually turning.

I would not be concerned.

RickB explained to me that it's exactly how it looks. He said they hold up well even with the constant pressure when not using the PTO. I was surprised to hear that. Time will tell I guess. I've read of a bunch of people replacing clutches too early. I figure at a minimum the clutches should last to 4K hrs.
