Yes that has been an interesting site, noticed they don't care for verizon at the moment..

Yes but the routers they carry for EVDO don't care about the carrier vendors either - to a large extent.

Well received the "little" Verizon mifi today, breeze to install. Took about 10 minutes start to finish. I also bought a usb adapter for $29 @ wally world (for the desk top).

Allot faster than the Sprint usb modem we had, but I think I get a much better signal from Verizon... Blazing fast so far..

We have "DSL" but wireless and not cell based.

Our vendor is "The Cyber Shop" in Grand Saline, there is a sister company in Mineola and another in Van that I know of.

We get VERY fast speeds (down is faster than up) but it's not cable internet fast. I think the install was about $250 (antenna) and about $60/month for unlimited bandwidth. With FIVE people on the internet, it's still fast, and the family does the movie download thing and I can still do my homework w/o any real issues.

This is NOT a satalite based system, so you need ZERO phone lines.

We get our internet off of a land based wireless system. We are getting about 5mbps down (or whatever the units are) and about 1mbps up. There are actually a couple of competitors in the area and I switched, the other one went down quite a bit and didn't have 24x7 support. Its about $52 a month. We are 5 miles from any town. We have a little dish antenna about 40 feet up a tower to get the signal. Real please with it and the technology.

There are certainly advantages and disadvantages to country living. The pros out weigh the cons big time. I really don't have too much to complain about with WildBlue. I had a few problems and complained about it on their forum and got a call from the big boys. They sent a field tech from New Hampshire ( a good 6 hour drive) TWICE! The first time he completely re-installed my system....from digging up a new 125 ft trench by hand.
I have 3 pay plan options to choose from. I have the highest at $79.95 but if a wireless card setup is $60 a month....I see no real need to switch right now. I'm in hopes that DSL will eventually make it's way to my house sooner than later.

EZ,

I'm in Maine too. We had satellite internet and I thought it was horrible. We were able to get verizon wireless about 18 months ago because they expanded the network near me. It is way better than satellite, at least in my experience. If that is an option for you I'd take a look at it. I don't know when broadband is gonna get to my neck of the woods, although the state just got more money for the purpose of expanding to rural areas so we will see.

DSL = Digital Subscriber Line, which means you are on a phone line. :D

There are wireless internet services around like you have, just isn't "DSL".
