All three things you mentioned are overrated. I would suggest --- horses.

Domestic geese, will keep the grass trimmed 1/2" high and they eat the weeds first.

Thanks for the replies. A wide range of experiences for sure.

If I do get a cow it will be one (1) cow, not several. I may put a cow and a goat in together. I'm still working on the fence, so no hurry.

The cow won't replace the tractor. You will need to drag the pasture to spread the manure. You will need to mow some too. Most folks would raise a steer instead of a cow. Steers get a bit hard to manage at about 1100 lbs. I used to leave them as bulls and take them to the processor at about 1100 lbs. They reach that weght about 4 to 6 months faster if you leave them as bulls. On 3 acres you may get by with 2 head. I think they do better with company. (who wants to be alone) I always use to feed corn from about 8 months on. Bulls often reach 1100 by 16 months. You won't want to process your bulls much older than that even if they are not at weight. You must not let stored corn get wet. It will self ignite and burn. If you feed corn for eight months you will need an honest meat processor or they will substitute your beef with the junk they normally get. They may also short you on processed weight. You will have prime +++++ beef if you do it my way. Bovines love alfalfa hay. They can eat moldy hay.
